Five things we can all learn from Lea Michele

As you may well know, I’m all for having a style guru to follow and mimic. Where else are we supposed to gather inspiration from? It’s especially helpful to have a celebrity beauty muse with similar colouring to you in mind. It’s the perfect way to discover which hair and beauty looks may or may not work for you without having to get your guinea pig on.

But sometimes we are lucky enough to stumble across a celebrity that can be held up as the ultimate style muse and teach us all a few valuable lessons. Enter Lea Michele.

Though she plays the uber-annoying Rachel Barry in Glee to a tee, when she hits the red carpet Lea couldn’t be any further from her slightly dorky alter ego. In fact, she hits the mark almost every time, which is why I’ve chosen to catapult her to ultimate style muse status.

Here are five things we can all learn from Lea Michele…

Keep it clean

No matter how formal your event, it’s always best to look as though you’re not wearing a whole lot of make-up (even if you are). The trick is to keep your skin looking dewy and fresh without too much added colour. This means not being heavy handed with your bronzer and blush – and making sure you blend whatever you do apply well. For a natural-looking, even complexion we love Revlon ColorStay Whipped Créme Makeup for its dreamy, air-whipped finish.

Less is more

Lea knows the importance of keeping your make-up minimal. With the casual chic look reaching new heights in the popularity stakes, it makes sense to take it easy with the slap. Be sure to choose to highlight either your eyes or your lips with a bright, stand out hue – and leave the rest fairly neutral. Of course that doesn’t mean you have to leave your lips bare if you choose to rock a smoky eye – but if you want to embrace this young Hollywood trend properly, keep your pout decorated with pastel pink hues or nudes that pack a punch. We love Bobbi Brown Lip Gloss in Buff or Rosey.

Highlights are hot

Yes, if you ever wanted reassurance that highlighted locks were still hot, hot, hot, look no further than the image above. Lea shows us why lighter peek-a-boo strands poking through are the order of the day when you’re talking tantalising tresses.

Stay age appropriate

This one seems kind of obvious, but you’d be surprised how many people are swayed by new trends – some that really don’t translate across all age brackets. Take beach hair, for example. This can generally only be pulled off at a red carpet event by a small number of celebrities, but Lea knows that due to her age, sense of fun and flirty nature she fits the bill perfectly. As a young woman in her 20s, she also knows that a low-cut frock doesn’t seem out of the ordinary like it could for those much younger or older. Keep it flirty yet tasteful at all times and you’ll always come out on top.

Smiling is sexy

The pout is out. Nothing is sexier than a pearly white grin. Take care of your teeth, and your perfect smile will be reward enough. Use a whitening toothpaste that works hard to provide a whole mouth clean and you’ll be smiling bright a la Lea in no time. We love Colgate Total® Whitening Toothpaste because it provides 12-hour protection against bacteria and plaque for healthier teeth and gums.
