Festive Face Masks You Can Make At Home

‘Tis the season to be glowy. And nothing gets our skin prepped for the holiday festivities quite like a good ol’ face mask (or five).

While we’re big fans of a store-bought mask, there’s something oddly satisfying about rolling up your sleeves and getting your hands dirty with products from the pantry to make your own custom concoction. It’s like working for your glow, you know?

So if you’re feeling crafty this time of year and you’d rather spend money buying gifts for others than treating yourself to a Sephora haul, here are five festive face masks you can make using ingredients you probably already have in the fridge…

Eggnog

Really engulf yourself in the Christmas spirit this year by drenching your skin in an eggnog face mask. It may sound slightly unappealing, but the mixture is actually amazing for your skin. Jam-packed with vitamins A, D and E, eggs can slow down signs of ageing, tighten pores and help with hydration. Plus the milky portion of this festive drink contains lactic and hydroxy acids which help reduce acne, and the high sugar concentration can help to exfoliate dead skin.

Pumpkin Spice

Swap out your pumpkin spice latte for a pumpkin spice face mask with powerful anti-ageing benefits. Pumpkins contain vitamins A, C, and E, along with retinoic acid and beta carotene. This potent combination brightens age spots, helps even out skin tone, and provides a gentle exfoliant. Mix it together with a little nutmeg and honey to help boost collagen production and reduce fine lines and wrinkles.

Cocoa

An amazing antioxidant and soothing agent, cocoa works magic in a face mask if you suffer from redness and puffiness or just got a little too much sun. Cocoa is rich in flavanols which helps in cell regeneration and repair, particularly from UV sunlight and free radicals. Mix it together with some avocado for a boost of hydration and honey for antibacterial properties.

Milky Coffee

Next time you’re at your local coffee shop, ask the barista for the leftover coffee grounds to take home and rub all over your face (seriously). Mixing coffee grounds and milk provides an exfoliating facial scrub that’s both soothing and invigorating. Like with eggnog, the lactic acid from the milk helps rid the skin of impurities and dead skin build-up, while the coffee grounds protect skin against germs, help boost collagen production, and act as a natural exfoliant.

Butternut Squash

While it may be a key ingredient in one of the best festive soups around, butternut squash should also be a key ingredient in your DIY face mask. An excellent source of vitamin A and antioxidants, butternut squash helps reverse and prevent against the effects of sun damage, dehydrated skin, and the signs of ageing. Combine butternut squash with tea tree oil to fight blemishes and honey to brighten and protect skin from bacteria.

  1. Wow! Great article. I’m a big fan of all natural and DIY beauty products- who knew pumpkin could be used in a face mask! I used to use honey and milk as a natural cleanser in my earlier years, but have never really tired it in a face mask. Will definitely give these a whirl!
