6 effective ways to exfoliate your face

Do you cleanse, tone and moisturise twice daily? Excellent! But to keep your skin healthy, radiant and looking its best, you also need to exfoliate.
Why? Because as your skin cells renew, old, dead skin cells sit on your skin, leaving it looking dry, dull and flaky – ick! Oh, and dead cells also have a nasty habit of blocking pores and causing oil build-up, so make it part of your routine to give your face a good ol’ scrub once or twice a week and you’ll be rewarded with a glow.
Now, before you get set to scrub, figure out the best exfoliating technique for you. Read on to find out the different ways to get your deepest clean yet.
#1: FACIAL CLEANSING BRUSH
Just like a body brush whisks away dead skin cells from your thighs, legs and butt, a facial cleansing brush works wonders on dull, flaky skin – and it means you can knock out cleansing and exfoliating all at once! Try the Manicare Facial Cleansing Brush. Wet the brush, pop your cleanser on the bristles, and gently buff it over your skin using a circular motion. Don’t forget about those often-missed areas like your jawline, the inner corners of your nose, in between your eyebrows, and under your chin.
#2: AT-HOME PEEL
Packed with glycolic acid, at-home peels are amazing for zapping away dead, dull and damaged skin cells, but the benefits don’t stop there. They’re also great for reducing the appearance of fine lines and wrinkles, evening out skin tone, and minimising pores. If you’re ready to get your DIY on, go for the John Plunkett Skincare Glyco Peel. Apply it at night after cleansing, let it dry, and then smooth your moisturiser over the top for smooth, revived skin.
#3: FACIAL BUFF
Facial buffs work with your cleanser to gently polish your skin, sloughing away dead skin cells and dryness. To get a baby-soft complexion, pop a dollop of cleanser on the loofah side of the Eco Tools Bamboo Loofah Facial Buff. Gently massage it over your face using circular motions, and then use the cotton side to rinse away the cleanser.
#4: EXFOLIATING MASK
Got a little time on your hands? Pour yourself a glass of wine, pop on your fave TV series, snuggle up in your robe and treat your skin to an exfoliating mask. How delicious does that sound?! We love the Quick Fix Exfoliating Scrub Mask as it targets blackheads and blocked pores and renews the skin with superfoods like goji berries and pomegranate.
#5: EXFOLIATING GEL
Unlike regular facial scrubs, exfoliating gels tend to be highly concentrated with active ingredients like AHAs, which work hard to dissolve dead skin cells and deeply decongest the skin. Rinse your skin with the Ultraceuticals Ultra Gentle Exfoliating Gel – it contains jojoba oil to gently exfoliate while minimising the appearance of pores and brightening your complexion.
#6: FACIAL SCRUB AND FINGERTIPS
If you’re up for getting a little more hands on with exfoliating, then the traditional scrub-and-fingertips technique is for you. It couldn’t be more straightforward! Once or twice a week, after cleansing, put some exfoliator (we love the Kelapa Gentle Exfoliating Facial Scrub) on your fingertips, rub them together and massage over your entire face. Be sure to avoid roughly scrubbing your skin as this can cause redness and irritation.

I'm always too scared to try peels, I think they will just irritate my skin

From my researches too, I discovered two forms of exfoliation, the chemical peels and the mechanical exfoliation. The sugar and facial scrubs come into play in the mechanical exfoliation, however in the chemical peels, the top layer of the epidermis is “melted” away without any abrasion, you can actually fall asleep in the process! The chemical peels can at times cost quite a penny but are really the ideal. Before then though, being the queen of DIY, I found some recipes that work just as perfect.
There are so many things that you can use, listing three recipes makes me feel kind of like I am depriving you of a whole heap of tips. Discover them all on https://onlineapotheek.co.

I used to love using exfoliating scrubs but they're very harsh on the skin. So I now use exfoliating wipes. Much more gentle yet effective!

I like the idea of a facial cleansing brush. I usually use a scrub, and I also have a facial buff to use with my cleanser.

Great tips but so many steps that are time consuming. They need to create 2 or 3 products TOPS that is a quicker routine with the benefits of others mixed in :)

I like the thought of using an exfoliating gel or cream rather than a scrub to help with my skin tone and pore size.
