We review the new La Mer Treatment Lotion Hydrating Sheet Mask

Face masks are having a major moment (thanks Instagram!) but none more so than the sheet mask. Originating in South Korea, the sheet mask’s popularity has spread like wildfire across the globe. There’s now a sheet mask for every budget from the pharmacy shelves to the high end counters.

So when we heard luxury beauty brand La Mer was bringing out a new sheet mask, we couldn’t wait to try it. At $180 for a pack of six, this might well be one of the most expensive sheet masks ever made. Being the gracious beauty lover I am, I offered up my face to give it a try. So did it live up to that very exxy price tag? Let’s break it down.
The Treatment Lotion and one of the sheet masks – get on my face, now!
As mentioned, the La Mer mask comes in a pack of six. Each sheet mask is also drenched in an ounce of La Mer’s The Treatment Lotion to deliver a dose of hydration the likes of which your skin has never seen. It also has skin-hugging technology in the fibres of the mask, so it’s supposed to stay put while you go about your business.
I greedily ripped into the mask and pulled it out. I was surprised to find that the mask felt a little thicker than most sheet masks I’ve tried, almost like a super-soft fabric, and it smelled like the traditional La Mer creams (which I personally love). The mask easily slid onto my face and it wasn’t difficult to maneuver it into place. I particularly loved how the areas around the nose, which are often hard to anchor down on the skin with a sheet mask, easily stuck and didn’t move. After a few minutes of wearing the mask I could feel a delicious cooling sensation on my skin, like my thirsty pores were soaking in all of La Mer’s nutrient-rich Miracle Broth™, a key ingredient in all La Mer products that promotes youthful-looking skin.
A little bit luxe, a little bit terrifying
According to the instructions, you only need to leave the mask on for 8 minutes to see a healthy, youthful glow but due to the fact that this mask costs more than my weekly grocery shop, I decided to really get my money’s worth and left it on for 15. Then I gently peeled away the mask and massaged the excess into my face and neck. I even had a little more left over that I gently patted on the backs of my hands, because there was a voice in my head was screaming ‘Make it last! Every single drop!’
I looked in the mirror and immediately noticed a major difference in how my skin looked. Somehow, in the depths of winter, my skin was plump and down right radiant! It felt so soft and springy to the touch and my usual tinge of skin redness was far less noticeable. I began cycling through my upcoming plans in my head, desperate to think of a time that I could use this mask before a big event – because the glow was that real.
Left - Before the mask, Right - The after glow-up. The pic doesn't even do it justice, I swear!
Final thoughts? I loved it. The whole experience felt luxe from beginning to end and my skin hasn’t felt this good in a lonnngggg time. If you’ve got a big event coming up that requires an instant radiance boost, I couldn’t recommend it highly enough. Or, if you’ve just got a nice fat tax return sitting in your bank account, this is one sheet mask that is worth the considerable investment.
After, I thought about layering over my favourite foundation to see how it looked, but instead decided to let my skin just be its newly-glowing self – and that’s the measure of a good sheet mask!

What a waste of money. The ingredients in this mask have humectant properties just like the cheaper ones, only they use more expensive (but not necessarily better) ingredients and superficial brightening extracts to make you think it has made a difference. I wouldn't blow that much cash on a mask if it was made out of gold!!

Ah! It's for six masks. That's ok. Not sure about La Mer.. I thought they used mineral oil in some products..?

I would love to try this mask someday, look at that glow! =) The price tag did seem quite expensive at first but it includes six masks and a treatment bottle which sounds fair. I haven't used enough different varieties of sheet masks yet to have a fave but I do like Innisfree's It's Real sheet masks and a couple of Vitamasque's sheet masks.

Definitely I can see the radiant glow! Not bad in pricing for laMer either. I may try this after using up 17 sheet masks in my stash (they are also quite fab!). yup will get them....still deciding on splurging on UFO, wonder if I can use it on these masks (cutting circles out of them hehe)

I couldn't see any difference with these pic's although I've heard good thing's about this brand I wouldn't mind trying other product's from their range if I came across it in store just not into sheet mask's I prefer a normal clay mask on my face.

I'm glad you said there are masks for every budget because I'd feel guilty spending $180 on one product.

Not something I'd outlay that much for.

Looks great- but that’s pretty pricy for a mask! I get great results from my $10 sheet mask!

Thats way too expensive considering how many amazing sheet masks there are out on the market

I guess when you factor in the $180 is for six sheets plus the essence, it's a little easier to get your head around, just a lot upfront. If the results are there though, i'm willing to give it a go!

I would never pay that much for a mask but I can see how your skin is glowing after it so for that price it does do the job :)

To be fair I expect a temporary glow every time I do a sheet mask - I get a real glow from my $2 Japanese sheet mask. When I have invested 30 minutes or so of my time just to do a sheet mask, a temporary glow is the least that I could ask for. The real question is whether there is any long term improvement with continued use.
The fit around the nose is horrible. I have expected a lot better from La Mer. It can really take note of some of the Japanese/Korean sheet mask designs where the nose area is completely covered.
$180 for a pack of 6 ($30 each) PLUS a bottle of essence is actually not unaffordable for many. It's far from "the most expensive sheet masks ever made". Ella Bache's sheet mask is $80 for a pack of 2 ($40 each), Estee Lauder Advanced Night repair foil mask is $35 each. Just two examples of what I own and I am sure there are many more that are more expensive. Both do not come with an additional bottle of essence.

True that. I also get temporary glow from all sheet masks tried so far. Just some make my skin dehydrated after a while so I have to wash them off. Only 2 sheet masks so far that gave me long lasting hydration! I do not mind the look of this one, some people like me have big noses hahahah =P

I'd love to try these, but they are way over my budget! I love Papa recipe's bombee honey sheet masks.

Ok the price is too much for me. But I was less of the sticker shock when you get the bottle as well. Think I will stick to my Neutrogena masks though ;)

I can tell from the photos the increase in the healthy look of the skin and it looks really fresh. I'd love to see the results in real life if the change is that good with just a photo snap.
