One of my aunts of an uncertain age once told me that, during the war when skincare was scarce, she would bathe her face in the water from boiled vegetables as a beauty tonic. Desperate times called for desperate measures after all, and she knew that not only are we what we eat, but our skin is also what we wear.
I think of that sometimes when I'm in the kitchen, and, much as I admire my aunt's ingenuity and still-lovely skin (and hope some of it's in the genes), I thank goodness that I've got some more sophisticated options on my beauty table.
Take the quirky-cute Yes To Carrots range that's on my desk today. Brimming with the benefits of carrots, pumpkins and oranges, these paraben-free products blend beta-carotene into deliciously soft creams, pampering masks and simply lovely concoctions for the skin, body and hair. Plus, each formula is infused with the skin-loving minerals and trace elements that have made the Dead Sea the go-to spot for beauty pilgrims over the ages. They smell good and they feel good – because they are.
Why not just eat your carrots? You should. But that bowl of boiled vitamin C will end up going all over your body, while applying antioxidant goodness directly to your skin makes sure you're firing straight at the free radicals that are doing your skin damage. Yes To Carrots? Make mine a double serving, please.
