How to find the right face mask for your skin

Face masks are often overlooked when it comes skin care rituals, although by skipping on this product you could be missing out on a world of benefits. Masks are a great way to keep your complexion in check because they have the ability to cleanse, detoxify and hydrate skin.
Before beginning a mask treatment, it’s a good idea to steam your face over hot water to open your pores. Then apply the mask over your face and down to your neck and décolletage to ensure your skin gets the maximum benefits.
With so many types of mask on the market, how can you possibly decide which formula is best for you? It’s important to first determine what kind of treatment you’re after based on your skin type. To help you out, we’ve compiled a guide to make the process of adding a quality face mask to your beauty kit a little simpler.
You want to treat: dry skin
You need: a hydrating mask
Those with dry or sensitive skin should look for a hydrating mask in a cream formula. They work to restore and maintain natural oils to replenish and add moisture to the skin without irritating it.
Product pick: Kora Organics Hydrating Mask
You want to treat: oily skin
You need: a clay mask
Clay masks are ideal for those with oily skin as they absorb excess oil, which can lead to breakouts. They also work to draw out impurities, giving you a deep cleanse, and act as a detox for the skin. Restrict application to the t-zone and oil-prone areas and keep away from the eyes and lips.
Product pick: Natio Clay and Plant Face Mask
You want to treat: dull, tired skin
You need: a radiance mask
The combination of vitamins and light diffusers will restore a natural glow to tired, dull-looking skin. Radiance masks help to tone and moisturise the skin, resulting in it looking younger and smoother.
Product pick: Guinot Radiance mask
You want to treat: signs of ageing
You need: a firming mask
Firming masks usually come in gel or cream form. By massaging them into the contours of the face they firm and tighten the skin’s surface where elasticity has been lost, making them a great anti-ageing, wrinkle-fighting mask.
Product pick: St Ives Timeless Skin Mineral Clay Firming Mask
You want to treat: clogged pores
You need: a peel-off mask
After applied to your face, the formula will dry completely set so afterwards you can slowly peel it off. This formula opens pores, smooths skin and calms the complexion, reducing blackheads and removing dead skill cells.
Product pick: Montagne Jeunesse Passion Peel Off Cleansing Tottle
You want to treat: sensitive or irritated skin
You need: gel masks
Some masks can irritate sensitive skin types, but that doesn’t mean you have to miss out. Gel masks have a fantastic cooling and soothing effect to help calm and refresh stressed-out skin.
Product pick: glo therapeutics Soothing Gel Mask

I'm using a clay mask currently, for a deep cleanse. I tend to get clogged pores on my nose, so I plan to buy a a peel-off mask very soon.

I love face masks I use a clay mask to clear my pores and sheet masks to moisturise/revitalise/brighten. I'm surprised a lot of western companies haven't gotten on the sheet mask bandwagon yet because they are so amazing.

Terrific article - thanks for all the clues :-) I have 3 masks on the go at the moment - 2 clay purifying ones (Palmer's & QV), and a multivitamin one (dermalogica). Love them all for different reasons, but I reckon I also need both a firming and a peel-off one to target my other concerns ♥

I used to use all other facial masks, such as montagne peel mask and the acne ones. But since finding that the natural ones are better for me and cheaper too. I stop using others and just stick to my manuka honey, green tea, yoghurt and strawberries
