When we hear “anti-ageing skincare” we think serums, moisturisers, and hydrating face masks. And while these are all important steps to prevent signs of ageing on our face and neck, we often neglect one of the most important steps in skincare before it’s too late: our eyes.
The skin around our eyes is much more delicate than the rest of our face and thus prone to signs of ageing earlier on. From crows feet to fine lines and dark circles, the skin around our eyes requires special treatment and can benefit greatly from early intervention.
So whether you’re 25 and looking for preventative measures, or 55 and hoping to reverse signs of ageing, here’s a step-by-step anti-aging routine to get younger looking eyes!
SMOOTH ON SOME SPF
Every morning, protect your skin from the sun’s harmful rays by applying an eye cream with SPF. This will help to prevent the formation of fine lines and wrinkles, and also keep dark spots and pigmentation at bay.

APPLY IT THE RIGHT WAY
Now, don’t just go slapping on your eye cream! The power of the product is in the application. To get the most out of your eye cream, pop a pea-sized dab of product on your ring finger, and pat it about two centimetres beneath your eye and along the brow bone. Just remember the skin around your eyes is very delicate, so avoid tugging as this can stretch it. Dab and pat rather than swiping and pulling.

UP YOUR ANTIOXIDANTS
Eyes looking a little puffy? Antioxidants will help in a BIG way. Soak a washcloth in cool green tea and lay it over your eyes. Or put two wet tea bags in the fridge until they’re cold and then place them over your eyes. Green tea is bursting with antioxidants, which work wonders for soothing puffy peepers.
WASH THE DAY AWAY
It doesn’t matter how exhausted you are, there’s no excuse for going to bed with eye make-up still on! Leaving your eye make-up on overnight can lead to infections and dehydrate the skin around the eyes, so take a few minutes to wipe the grime away with a micellar water or make up remover towel.

HIT THE H2O BEFORE BED
Once you’ve applied your eye cream, down a glass of water before snuggling up in bed. This will not only help to keep your body hydrated overnight, but it’ll also quench the thirst of the skin around your eyes, and plump out lines and wrinkles come morning.
What products do you use to care for your eyes?
I’m guilty of this as well. I normally forget but when I do remember dabbing just takes so much longer to do.
I know it’s hard not to do isn’t it?!
