Express yourself

Express yourself

I don’t like carrots, yet slather on Yes To Carrots C Through the Night Night Moisturising Cream before bedtime. I would rather eat my arm than an avocado, but love nothing more than APIVITA Hair Food Mask With Avocado. I despise coffee (yes, I know, weirdo alert) yet rave about Priori CoffeeBerry Radiance Eye Serum. Sensing a pattern?

See, for me beauty and skincare, the whole shebang, is so much more that just pampering and preening. It’s an excuse to rebel. An excuse to create a whole new you, in the blink of a smoky eye. Why? Because you can. Rules smules.

Sadly – as much as I’d like to – I can’t take credit for this phenomenon. Beauty rebellion has being going on for yonks, some say back to the Roman times (ok that’s a lie but it’s detox week, we have to get our kicks somehow).

Recent rebels include the young Lily Allen thinking she was Frenchie from Grease, Miranda Otto breaking all the red-head rules with scarlet lips in sunday magazine, and well, myself turning from a coffee-bashing-carrot-hater to someone who laps these up in the beauty world.

The beautiful thing about beauty is the freedom it allows you to express yourself, whichever self you choose to be that day. You can step outside your comfort zone as much or as little as you like. Will it be a nude lip today or a hot pink? (If you’re going for the hot pink, try Vani-T Krush Minerals Lip Glaze in Viva La Glam).

What rules are you breaking today?
