Expert reviews: Our beauty must-haves

Nothing perks a gal up more than a beauty discovery that’s a total game-changer, and this month, we’ve got four of them. From a super-smelling, strand-saving hair mask to a handy concealer and foundation in one, the bh team just can’t get enough of these beauty must-haves.

Neutrogena HYDRO BOOST Serum

bh’s Anna says:

Anyone who knows me understands I am a huge fan of the Neutrogena HYDRO BOOST masks. I use them once a week without fail and absolutely love how amazing they make my skin look and feel. So you can imagine how keen I was to try this serum when it landed on my desk! I use a booster every day after cleansing and toning and before moisturising. I added the Neutrogena HYDRO BOOST serum into my routine after my booster and before my moisturiser. As I expected, the results were fab. The serum is a runny formula so you only need the tiniest amount to spread all over your face and neck – a 5c piece amount is plenty! The scent is the usual clean, pleasant smell I’ve come to associate with Neutrogena products. The product absorbs well and you can definitely feel that extra hit of hydration. I don’t think this product is as effective as the HYDRO BOOST mask, but as the mask is my Holy Grail product, it would be hard to beat in my eyes. I still think the serum is a great addition to any skin care routine, especially coming into the cooler months to ensure skin stays soft and moisturised.

Garnier Fructis Grow Strong Intensive Mask

bh’s Astrid says:

I’ve gotten into the routine of spending a little too much time with my heat tools, meaning I’ve developed a mild case of fried-out strands. In an attempt to rectify this recent habit of mine, I’ve been indulging my locks in a TLC pampering session every Sunday with the Garnier Fructis Grow Strong Intensive Mask. Firstly, I love the consistency: it’s thick, indulgent and super silky, and feels like it’s really penetrating into my strands and giving it that nourishing hit it needs. Secondly, as someone who isn’t big on long showers, this mask works in one minute, so I’m not standing around for 10 minutes or more waiting to wash my hair. Lastly, the smell. It’s so good, like a tropical fruit cocktail, I just can’t get enough! I’m really big on hair products that smell fruity and fresh, so this one definitely deserves a permanent place on my bathroom shelf.

Kosmea Rose Body Lotion

bh’s Beth says:

Applying a body moisturiser is a daily ritual for me, and I love to switch it up! This is the first rose-scented one I’ve tried, and I have to say I really liked it. The scent is pretty strong when first applied, but after it’s rubbed in it fades a fair bit (which is great as it means it doesn’t clash with my perfume). The texture of this moisturiser leaves a slightly sticky feeling on the skin at first, but this goes away after a few seconds once it’s fully absorbed. My skin felt pretty soft and smooth after applying, however it’s definitely a ‘light’ lotion, so it’s better for non-dry skin types or for use in the warmer months. If, like me, you use a body moisturiser literally all over your body, every single day, the 125mL won’t go very far – so I would save this for special occasions or a once-weekly pampering sesh. Older beauties might also be interested to know the lotion contains rosehip oil, gotu kola and hyalurolift to help smooth lines and plump the skin. As I’m only 26 I can’t really comment on this benefit just yet, but it sounds pretty promising!

Designer Brands Flawless All in One Foundation

bh’s Sam says:

I’m usually a pump-packaging kind of gal, but on a recent trip overseas I decided to give the Designer Brands stick foundation a go to save on travel space (and leakage dramas). For this purpose it was great, it’s compact and easy to apply on the go – in fact it was surprisingly creamy. It provides medium coverage and can be built up quite quickly if you’re after a full face. It stayed on fairly well, despite the very humid weather on my trip, which I was impressed with. However as the weather gets colder now that I’ve returned, I’ve noticed it can be a bit drying. Overall it’s a great little foundation to carry around for touch-ups or when you’re travelling, but I will only continue to use it in conjunction with my liquid favourite.
