Eva Longoria shares her beauty secrets

Beauty icon, Desperate Housewives alumna and bestie to Victoria Beckham, Eva Longoria, recently visited Sydney to promote her role as ambassador and star judge for Specsaver’s Spectacle Wearer of the Year. While she was here, we snapped up the chance to chat with her about the competition, her style tips for glasses wearers, and – of course – share her makeup and beauty secrets, advice, and regrets.

What makeup looks work while wearing your glasses?

“Eva Longoria: I think you should wear makeup – some people do the opposite and they think, ‘oh I have glasses on so therefore I don’t have to wear makeup’. You should have a nice cheekbone, whether that’s contouring, or a blush that pops out right behind the less. You should apply mascara, paint on your brow… all of those features will be accentuated and magnified behind the glasses.”

What’s the best beauty tip or advice you’ve ever been given?

“I’ve learnt that beauty stems from great skin, so you have to have a good skin care routine. A lot of people want to know, ‘What’s a good foundation? What’s a good concealer?’ and I’m like, ‘First of all, you need an eye cream’. It’s essentially your best concealer because if you apply eye cream day and night, it really helps get rid of the dark circles and the crow’s feet so you won’t need a corrector. Facials are also very important; I get facials often to maintain my skin because I fly a lot and I like to stay hydrated. When I fly, I moisturise with serums. L’Oréal have a Revitalift Serum that is so good I wear it all the time, when I’m flying, at night… I just like to be hydrated. The other tip, makeup wise, is fake lashes. Even it’s a few individual lashes that you apply in the corner, they make your eyes pop.”

So you’re a pro at applying them?

“Oh yeah, I’ve been applying them since I was 11. I could do it while driving the car, drinking a coffee and on the phone.”
Ed’s note: Who’d have thought the pint-sized star had such a useful hidden beauty skill?

I could do it while driving the car, drinking a coffee and on the phone.

What are your can’t-live-without products?

“Revitalift Serum, I can’t live without it. Also I CANNOT live without my Voluminous Carbon Black Mascara* – it’s like the blackest black mascara. It’s got the best brush, you can really get in there [to the corners of your eyes] – it’s just the best mascara. People always go, ‘Oh it’s because you’re with L’Oréal [you say that]’, and I say, ‘No, no this is my favourite mascara ever’. It’s really affordable, too. I look at these department store mascaras and I’m like, ‘$90?! What world are we paying $90 for a mascara?!’”

What’s your biggest beauty regret?

“Probably going blonde. I went blonde for a year – pretty blonde – and it was just so high maintenance and it ruined my hair. I naturally have dark, dark brown hair, so it took me forever to get back to normal.”

What does beauty mean to you?

“Confidence and feeling good in your skin and secure with who you are – I think that really emits beauty.”

For those who are keen to enter the Specsavers Spectacle Wearer of the Year comp, Eva has some wise words to share about your entries: “We’re looking for people who are going to celebrate their individual style with their frames.”
