Sensitive skin can be super tricky to deal with. You’ve probably used (and promptly thrown out) many products that have caused your skin to react, whether it’s your face, body or scalp.
Have you ever considered using unscented products? They might just solve your sensitive skin issues, and here’s why.
FRAGRANCE CAN SET OFF YOUR SKIN
When you have a reaction to a beauty product, it could be because it contains added fragrance. A combination of scented ingredients (either natural or synthetic), fragrance is what gives a product an indulgent or fresh scent. However, if your skin is sensitive to fragrance, certain allergens in the scent can cause irritation.
The solution: Choose unscented products
Many brands now create two versions of the same product: one scented, and one unscented. The latter is free from potential fragranced irritants, so you can get all the benefits the product offers without breaking out in a rash. Score!
If you think you might be sensitive to fragranced buys, switch to unscented products, but still do a patch test first. To do that, apply a little bit of product to a small section of your forearm. If you don’t react within 24 hours, go ahead and use the product. Of course, if you have a reaction, discontinue use immediately.

bh tip: You don’t need to have sensitive skin to use unscented products. If you find fragranced products overpowering or simply prefer to use products with as little scent as possible, go down the unscented route!
WHAT ABOUT ‘FRAGRANCE-FREE’ PRODUCTS?
When a product is ‘fragrance-free’, that doesn’t necessarily mean it is free from scented additives. It just indicates that no fragrance has been added, but it can still contain essential oils or fruit/flower distillate waters that give the product scent.
