Benefits of lavender

Ahhhhhh lavender. Even just writing the word has already made me feel a little bit more relaxed. There’s just something about this magical purple plant that has the ability to make you feel all warm and fuzzy inside. And not only that, it’s really attractive to look at and smells good too. So really, lavender is like the perfect man, just in plant form. Thankfully it’s nowhere near as hard to get a hold of and we can reap the rewards just about anytime we want.
BENEFITS OF LAVENDER #1: Fight dandruff & strengthen hair
Why: lavender helps to normalise the scalp, preventing it from flaking. It can also prevent hair loss and is often used as a natural treatment for alopecia.
Try: Shanga So Mild Lavender Shampoo or APIVITA PROPOLINE Shampoo for sensitive scalp with lavender & honey
BENEFITS OF LAVENDER #2: Sleep & relaxation
Why: the aroma of lavender has a very calming and relaxing effect that can help clear the mind ready for sleep. Human studies have shown that it helps to slow down the heart rate, slow down blood pressure and put the body in a parasympathetic (relaxed) state.
Try: Johnson's® baby Bedtime Bath® or The Body Shop Wellbeing Deep Sleep Dreamy Pillow and Body Mist
BENEFITS OF LAVENDER #3: Calm dry & irritated skin
Why: the antifungal and antiseptic properties of lavender can help to calm dry and irritated skin. It can also be used as a treatment for eczema and is perfect for sensitive skin.
Try: Bellamer Botanical Skin Care Soothing Balm or A'kin Lavender Geranium & Jojoba, Nail & Cuticle
BENEFITS OF LAVENDER #4: Scrapes & wounds
Why: lavender has natural antiseptic properties and can help increase cell growth, allowing wounds to heal faster. Lavender oil can also be used to help decrease the appearance of scars and stretch marks.
Try: Aromatherapy Associates Support Lavender Pure Essential Oil or Lanolips Lovely Lanolin Herbal Treatment Body Oil
BENEFITS OF LAVENDER #5: Anxiety & depression
Why: lavender has a high concentration of volatile oils, which contribute to it’s distinct and calming fragrance. The fragrance directly acts on the nervous system, helping to fix mood imbalances such as anxiety, stress, nervousness and depression.
Try: KORA Organics Calming Lavender Mist or L’Occitane Lavender Scented Candle

I love lavender and it's many uses. Dr. Hauschka's Lavender Bath is amazing! I like to add some to my kids' baths when they're really crabby - it makes them much more pleasant to be around. :)

I knew about its calming benefits, but I didn't know about it preventing hair loss. I've got some growing in a pot in my backyard, I like the flowers on it & I don't mind the scent either, but I don't use it for anything.

I love lavender. I love The Body Shop deep sleep pillow mist. I've also got the oil from the same range, but I much prefer the mist. I also have a lavender oil roll on. I got it in a David Jones bag about 12 months ago. It's meant to be a sleep aid, but its wonderful for rolling in mozzie bites. Very soothing and takes away the itch.

I've heard about the different uses of lavender, but I'm not a fan of lavender. I may be one of the few people that don't really like the smell.
