Benefits of lavender

Ahhhhhh lavender. Even just writing the word has already made me feel a little bit more relaxed. There’s just something about this magical purple plant that has the ability to make you feel all warm and fuzzy inside. And not only that, it’s really attractive to look at and smells good too. So really, lavender is like the perfect man, just in plant form. Thankfully it’s nowhere near as hard to get a hold of and we can reap the rewards just about anytime we want.
BENEFITS OF LAVENDER #1: Fight dandruff & strengthen hair
Why: lavender helps to normalise the scalp, preventing it from flaking. It can also prevent hair loss and is often used as a natural treatment for alopecia.
Try: Shanga So Mild Lavender Shampoo or APIVITA PROPOLINE Shampoo for sensitive scalp with lavender & honey
BENEFITS OF LAVENDER #2: Sleep & relaxation
Why: the aroma of lavender has a very calming and relaxing effect that can help clear the mind ready for sleep. Human studies have shown that it helps to slow down the heart rate, slow down blood pressure and put the body in a parasympathetic (relaxed) state.
Try: Johnson's® baby Bedtime Bath® or The Body Shop Wellbeing Deep Sleep Dreamy Pillow and Body Mist
BENEFITS OF LAVENDER #3: Calm dry & irritated skin
Why: the antifungal and antiseptic properties of lavender can help to calm dry and irritated skin. It can also be used as a treatment for eczema and is perfect for sensitive skin.
Try: Bellamer Botanical Skin Care Soothing Balm or A'kin Lavender Geranium & Jojoba, Nail & Cuticle
BENEFITS OF LAVENDER #4: Scrapes & wounds
Why: lavender has natural antiseptic properties and can help increase cell growth, allowing wounds to heal faster. Lavender oil can also be used to help decrease the appearance of scars and stretch marks.
Try: Aromatherapy Associates Support Lavender Pure Essential Oil or Lanolips Lovely Lanolin Herbal Treatment Body Oil
BENEFITS OF LAVENDER #5: Anxiety & depression
Why: lavender has a high concentration of volatile oils, which contribute to it’s distinct and calming fragrance. The fragrance directly acts on the nervous system, helping to fix mood imbalances such as anxiety, stress, nervousness and depression.
Try: KORA Organics Calming Lavender Mist or L’Occitane Lavender Scented Candle

I love to add lavender and frankincense essential oils to body oil. Essential oils should not be used neat on the skin, always mixed with carrier oil. I also love Aveda's Stress Fix range which combines lavende with clary sage.

Lavender is beneficial but for some reason too much of it on its own is nauseating for me. Mix this with peppermint in an oil burner is really nice ,refreshing and calms my nerves.

I LOVE Lavender! I would like to add that when I get a blind pimple(way too often!) I soak a cotton tip in lavender oil & dab it on for a while before bed & it really helps! Reduces the duration & seems to make it less painful..
