bh’s Beth reviews Benefit POREfessional Matte Rescue

1) How does the product work and how should it be used?

The product is formulated to absorb excess oil on your skin’s surface, leaving it looking matte. It also contains diamond powder which is meant to have a soft-focus, pore-blurring effect. The brand says to apply a thin layer all over your face after cleansing. For best results, they recommend using the product with POREfessional Primer.

2) What were your initial thoughts after the first use?

The product feels similar to a gel moisturiser, and glided onto my bare skin easily. Once it settled on the skin it felt more like a primer, my skin had that super smooth texture. The product gives no advice about using a moisturiser with it, but it doesn’t seem to have moisturising properties. First I tried it without make-up, and while the pores on/around my nose definitely did look smaller, other imperfections were still pretty visible. When I wore it with make-up, I found my foundation glided on smoothly (as if over a primer). The finish was flawless and my pores were almost invisible!

3) After prolonged use, did you notice a difference in the texture of your skin?

While I don’t think this product is formulated to have a lasting, long-term effect, it definitely delivered on its claim to blur the appearance of my pores every time I used it. My pores didn’t vanish, but we all know that’s not possible anyway (they’re there for a reason!).

4) Did the product do what it claimed?

Yes, the product made my pores look noticeably smaller/less obvious and helped mattify my skin. The afternoon oil slick I usually experience when I wear foundation was delayed by a couple of hours, and not nearly as severe. Personally I would use this product in place of a primer, as I like to keep it simple. If, like me, you have a combination/oily skin type and visible pores, you should definitely consider trying this product!
