Cooking up a storm

Cooking up a storm

Who knew that many-a-celeb ditches high-tech brands in favour of things found in their (no doubt manned and impeccably clean) kitchen.

Welsh stunner, Catherine Zeta Jones revealed earlier this year that she washes her raven locks in beer! While confessing to smelling “like the bottom of a beer barrel for days afterwards,” she’s unperturbed as “it’s very good for the hair.” What do you think, would you use Hubby’s VB instead of Clairol Herbal Essences? I think it’s a no for me! Although I do love her tip of rubbing “a mixture of honey and salt all over” to moisturise and exfoliate, certainly sticky but I bet it does leave skin glowing all over. Alternatively you could play it safer but still get your honey hit with L’Occitane Honey and Lemon Delightful Cream.

A tip of hers that I definitely swear by is eating an apple after a meal, apparently it’s the secret to her sensational smile and leaves her gnashers always looking polished afterwards. It’s not just a fad either, Mrs Douglas has done her homework: “The juice or pulp of strawberries contains malic acid which serves as an astringent and can lighten surface stains. Pineapples work the same way.” So be sure to stop off at Woolies on your way home ladies!

Obviously I had to continue my celeb-digging further and found that both Cameron Diaz and Cindy Crawford are fans of milk to cleanse their skin (Diaz favours the powdered variety as an exfoliant for problem skin).

Jennifer Love Hewitt uses toothpaste for pimples (I can tell you from first-hand experience that this works), Julia Roberts has been known to apply olive oil to her nails and cuticles, while Teri Hatcher apparently bathes in wine! Oh how the rich and famous live!

Apart from the ones I’ve said I can vouch for, the validity of these claims remains untested by bh, however I would love to hear of any whacky beauty crazes you’ve tried that actually work…

Do you prefer to play it safe or are you willing to try new beauty fads?
