Your party season skincare pamper guide is here

With Christmas drinks, end of year gatherings and constant makeup, your skin is probably not in the bronzed, glowing shape you would like it to be at this time of year. Plus, considering it is also the end of a long work year, stress has likely taken its toll on your complexion, rendering it duller and more tired than usual. So in the interest of upping the ante on your natural glow, while also forcing a little down time we’ve pulled together some of our favourite skincare treatments, that are not only luxurious to use, but will get your skin back on track at short notice. So whether you’re using a face mask as an excuse for a night in, or are rearing to get a glass of bubbles in hand, here are our favourite ways to pamper yourself this party season.

Step 1: Cleanse

Giving your skin a deep cleanse is the first step to getting it back to glowing. Firstly, swipe a micellar, such as Bioderma Sensibio H20 Micelle Solution or Nivea MicellAIR Skin Breathe Expert Makeup Remover, to remove the top layer of makeup and grime. Secondly, try double cleansing with a cleanser such as Tatcha The Deep Cleanse (find it at mecca.com.au) or Skinstitut Gentle Cleanser (find it at adorebeauty.com.au). Top tip: using a device such as the Foreo LUNA fofo will ensure a deeper and more thorough cleanse.

Step 2: Exfoliate

While physical exfoliants may not be for everyone, using them once a week can make a huge difference in removing dead skin cells and assisting in deeply cleansing your skin. If you have sensitive skin or are prone to redness or inflammation, I would opt for a chemical exfoliant instead, but if you have normal skin try Frank Body Creamy Face Scrub (find it at frankbody.com.au). If you are prone to acne, sensitivity or redness, a chemical exfoliant, such as Pixi Glow Tonic (find it at lookfantastic.com.au) (which is packed with AHAs to even and refine skin tone), will slough off the top layer of dead skin cells and leave your skin perfectly prepped for your treatment, without potentially irritating it.

Step 3: Apply a sheet mask

In the interest of achieving the ultimate (if only temporary) state of relaxation, a sheet mask is a great way to drench your freshly prepped skin in a cocktail of active, glow-inducing ingredients, while simultaneously providing the perfect excuse to lay on the couch with the latest episode of Riverdale. A few sheet masks we can’t get enough of include Go-To Transformazing (find it at gotoskincare.com), Dr. Lewinn’s Line Smoothing Complex High Potency Treatment Mask, Verso Intense Facial Mask (find it at mecca.com.au) and W Cosmetics BCL Saborino Morning Face Sheet Mask.

Step 4: Moisturise

Incorporating a hydrating face mask or serum is crucial, but without a good moisturiser, the active ingredients leave your skin almost immediately. A hydrating mask such as Laneige Water Sleeping Mask (find it at sephora.com.au) or Summer Fridays Jet Lag Mask (find it at mecca.com.au) are yes, technically masks, but also work wonders as overnight moisturisers. Not only do they act as a top layer to lock in the active ingredients found in your sheet mask but they are also soothing and nourishing in their own right. Plus, they’re both clear, so can be slapped on anytime your skin needs a boost. We guarantee you’ll be waking up with happier skin.
