Gym bag checklist: 8 essentials
As the weather warms up, so does that feeling that you should really start heading back to the gym ahead of beach season. And while being motivated to work out before work is one thing there's nothing worse than finishing a morning workout and feeling drastically under prepared for the rest of your day. Greasy hair and no dry shampoo? You only packed a skirt and your legs are definitely not skirt ready? Or heaven forbid you apply makeup without properly cleansing your face first.
With that in mind, I set to work constructing a gym bag checklist to ensure I (or you) will never feel ill-equipped after a workout ever again. It's sure to have you feeling fresh, gorgeous and ready to tackle your day head on. Here are the gym bag essentials you should never hit the treadmill without.
It goes without saying that after a workout that has left your skin covered in sweat, cleansing is a crucial step. Clean skin is a non-negotiable before applying anything else on your face. Gentle enough for all skin types and conditions, this cleanser can easily double as a face and body wash. Perfect to apply to your face after a vigorous workout, your skin will instantly feel soothed and refreshed. Try: Cetaphil Gentle Skin Cleanser
2. CC Cream
Whether you prefer full-coverage or like to go fresh faced, a BB or CC cream is the perfect middle ground. With many formulas now offering the skin care benefits of your full routine in a single product, it's the easiest way to look and feel your best in a flash. Try: IT Cosmetics Your Skin But Better CC Cream SPF 50+ or Laniege BB Cushion Hydra Radiance Foundation (find both at sephora.com.au)
3. A Multi-Tasking Tint
There's nothing that completes a beauty look like a pop of colour. For something that can give your cheeks, lips and lids the perfect amount of flush in a single product look no further than the hardworking tint. A cream formula means easy blending and less chance of shattering than a compact powder. Try this super travel friendly version: Frank Body Lip & Cheek Tint (available at mecca.com.au)
A non-negotiable beauty and general hygiene product: stash one in your desk, your handbag and your gym bag, just to be safe (oh and maybe your car too). Try: Mukti Organics Botanique Deodorant or Dove Clear Touch Anti-Perspirant Deodorant
5. Roll-on Perfume
To add a little bit of luxury to your gym bag (and on-the-go routine) a roll-on perfume never disappoints. While many fragrances are available in a roll-on or travel size our personal favourite scents include: Byredo Roll On Oil Mojave Ghost and Diptyque Eau Rose Roll-On EDT (both available at mecca.com.au)
6. Body Lotion
You never know when you're going to be caught out in skirt and a singlet weather. Queue body lotion to ensure your limbs are in perfectly moisturised shape at all times. Top tip: opt for a travel size in body lotion due to the large sizes that regular lotions tend to come in. Try: L'Occitane Cherry Blossom Body Milk (travel size - find it at au.loccitane.com)
7. Dry Shampoo
Another gym bag (and life) mainstay. Having a good dry shampoo will mean you can avoid carrying around a shampoo and conditioner, just in case you work up more of a sweat than you were expecting and it takes it's toll on your hair. Try: Batiste Dry Shampoo in Blush
8. Hairbrush & Hair Ties
If you're relying on dry shampoo (which we all are), then you'll need a reliable hairbrush to help work it through your hair. But, if it's been a big day and dry shampoo can't even help, a hair tie will be your best friend. A low bun with a middle part works well with a little extra hair grease, looks chic and is easy to do on the go. Try: Toni & Guy Cushion Brush
