Jumping ship from on-screen star to billion-dollar business woman, Jessica Alba has cemented herself as a front runner when it comes to celebrity-owned beauty businesses to take seriously.
But fancy packaging, celebrity endorsements and lavish product launches aside, there is a lot to be said for skin care formulations that can survive the scrutiny of a qualified skin expert.

In this case, Cosmopolitan UK recruited dermatologist Dr Justine Kluk to test drive five popular products from the Honest Beauty range, and in a fashion similar to our beloved beautyheaven members, she didn’t sugarcoat any of her reviews.
The Magic-Gel-To-Milk Cleanser was up first, and to sum it up in one word, Dr Kluk described the cleanser as “meh”.
“[The product] didn’t fully remove my makeup so I had to resort to a second cleanse with my trusted Garnier Micellar Water”.
Honest Beauty’s Gentle Gel Cleanser didn’t quite tick every box for Dr Kluk either. The “strong botanical smell” while not “itself unpleasant”, was something “I felt like I could taste each time I used it, which was not great” shared the derm. However, the whole I-can-feel-the-product-in-my-mouth saga aside, Dr Kluk revealed the lightweight, gel texture “managed to very effectively remove my makeup”.

Testing out two serums from Honest Beauty (the Vitamin C Radiance and Pure Retinol), Dr Kruk revealed that both formulas were neither here nor there. They were easily absorbed and tolerated well by her skin, however she described the vitamin C as “not particularly memorable” and the retinol as “pretty forgettable in terms of experience”

Now considering the Honest skin care line prides itself on being gentle, we aren’t overly surprised by the feedback given Dr Kruk is a medical professional used to dealing with prescription, high-grade, high-dosage and high-impact products.
The Hydrogel Cream, however, now that’s a product Dr Kluk is writing home about. “One of the best moisturisers I’ve tried in ages, I absolutely loved it,” she said, praising the formula for it’s “multiple moisture boosting ingredients” such as squalane, hyaluronic acid and glycerin.

The dermatologist’s glowing review didn’t stop there either. “It goes on like a gel, but within seconds takes on a whipped cream texture. Feels light as air and spreads beautifully, leaving skin glowy, dewy and nicely hydrated.”
She even added “I just adore it and was almost tempted to reapply it a couple of times during the course of the day because it looked and felt so nice.”
