Are you using your skin care products correctly?

Sure, the key to great skin is using the right products for your skin type – but how you use them is equally important.

Not all products should be used the same way, so to make sure you get the results you want, we asked Education Manager for the International Dermal Institute and Dermalogica, Emma Hobson, to talk us through the steps. Here’s to clearer, healthier-looking skin!

TO WHISK AWAY MAKE-UP, USE…

Dermalogica PreCleanse
Double cleansing is an effective way to thoroughly cleanse your skin and help other skin care products penetrate and work better. Use the Dermalogica PreCleanse to break down grime and oil before lathering up with your regular cleanser.

SO, HOW DO I USE IT PROPERLY?
Step 1:
Using dry hands, gently massage the product over dry skin.
Step 2: Add some water to your fingertips and continue massaging to remove more oil and make-up.
Step 3: Rinse off with warm water.

Emma’s advice: “It’s fantastic for removing heavy, oil-based make-up, stubborn waterproof mascara, dark lipsticks, and even the stains they all can leave behind. On a side note, it’s also the best jewellery cleaner I’ve ever come across!”

TO THOROUGHLY CLEANSE YOUR SKIN, USE…

Dermalogica Special Cleansing Gel
This soap-free foaming gel will help to rinse away impurities for a fresh and balanced complexion – but it’s essential to foam it properly before applying it to your skin. This will release all the active ingredients in the formula, while simultaneously ensuring it’s not too concentrated for your skin.

SO, HOW DO I USE IT PROPERLY?
Step 1:
Shape the palm of your hand into a cup and dispense a five cent coin-sized amount of cleanser into it.
Step 2: Use your fingers to gently whisk in some warm water to form a light, foaming wash.
Step 3: Massage the cleanser over your face, and then rinse with water.

Emma’s advice: “For efficiency in the shower, add Dermalogica Skin Prep Scrub to the cleanser foam to create a two-in-one ‘power cleanse’. You can also use this cleanser to remove eye make-up, and it can double up as a body wash if you want to travel light!”

TO REVEAL A RADIANT COMPLEXION, USE…

Dermalogica Daily Microfoliant
This extra-gentle exfoliant is formulated to be used every day to gently buff away dull, dead skin cells from the surface of skin. By doing this, it reveals a brighter complexion and makes your other skin care products absorb more effectively.

SO, HOW DO I USE IT PROPERLY?
Step 1:
Add the exfoliant and some water into the palm of your hand and use your finger to mix it into a creamy paste.
Step 2: Massage it over damp skin using your fingertips or the Dermalogica Exfoliating Face Brush.
Step 3: Rinse with warm water.

Emma’s advice: “You can even use it over your lips to free flaky, dead skin and ensure they’re smooth. It’s also fantastic for highly sensitive skin and people suffering from rosacea.”

TO TARGET LINES AND WRINKLES USE…

Dermalogica AGE Smart MultiVitamin Power Firm
The skin around your eyes and lips is thinner and more delicate than the rest of your face, so it’s important to use a specially formulated product (like this one)  and apply it with extra care.

SO, HOW DO I USE IT PROPERLY?
Step 1:
Apply rice-sized amount of product to the tip of your middle or ring finger. This will be enough for both eyes.
Step 2: Starting from the outer corner of the eye and moving inwards, gently pat the product around your eye. To prevent irritation, avoid applying it to the movable part of the eyelid.

Emma’s advice: “To help fight against the major causes of ageing, pat a small amount of Dermalogica MAP-15 Regenerator around the eye area before applying MultiVitamin Power Firm.”
