11 of the best budget beauty buys

Post Christmas is often a difficult time - with money having been invested in gifts for friends and family (and sometimes ourselves too), splurging on pricey beauty products is generally out of the question at this time of year. However, expensive doesn’t necessarily equate to high quality...and since we know your skin, hair and body may be suffering as a result of a few too many glasses of champagne of late, we have rounded up the best budget beauty buys to get your hands on, that will help you compromise on costs, without compromising on quality.

The best budget: all-rounder

Lanolips 101 Multipurpose Ointment: Holding 200 times its weight in water and completely natural, the Lanolips formula is iconic for its multi-tasking abilities. Chapped lips? Scaly elbows? Cuticles need some love? This product has you covered.
The best budget: sheet mask

Neutrogena HYDRO BOOST Mask: With Neutrogena’s new Hydro Boost formula, this sheet mask instantly relieves and hydrates dry skin, as well as locking in the moisture. Complement it with Neutrogena Hydro Boost Water Gel Moisturiser for supple, happier skin.
The best budget: sunscreen

La Roche-Posay Anthelios XL Ultra-Light Fluid SPF50+: I have personally spent more money and time than I’d care to admit trying to find an SPF that works under makeup and won’t clog pores, but also does a damn good job of protecting your skin…this sunscreen does all of the above, and won’t set you back more than $30. Plus, as the official sunscreen partner of the Australian Open this year, we’d say it’s pretty good at defending against sun damage too.
The best budget: cleanser

BIODERMA Sensibio H2O Micelle Solution: While new and innovative beauty products are great, there is something to be said for products that stand the test of time. The original micellar water, BIODERMA’s formula is gentle on your skin but works to remove makeup and impurities with a single swipe.
The best budget: exfoliator

Pixi Glow Tonic: Much-loved in the UK, the brand is only recently available in Australia and people are going nuts for it. A chemical exfoliant, that is still gentle on the skin, Pixi Glow Tonic is the addition to your skincare routine you won’t be able to live without (find it at sephora.com.au).
The best budget: lip product

Covergirl Melting Pout Matte: A lightweight matte finish but with serious colour payoff, this lip product won’t break the bank.
The best budget: foundation

The best budget: mascara

L’Oreal Paradise Mascara: A good mascara is worth its weight in gold - luckily it doesn’t cost that much. L’Oreal Paradise is relatively new on the mascara scene but it made serious waves in the beauty world, converting luxe mascara addicts left, right and centre (find it at priceline.com.au)
The best budget: dry shampoo

Batiste Dry Shampoo Original: A staple in everyone’s beauty cupboard, a dry shampoo is non-negotiable. After trying everything from budget to high end, Batiste still comes out on top.
The best budget: shampoo and conditioner

John Frieda Frizz-Ease Forever Smooth Shampoo and Conditioner: Frizz is an issue that affects almost everyone at some point, lucky for you: Frizz-Ease utilises coconut oil in order to penetrate the hair fibre and prevent frizz from the inside out.
The best budget: hair mask

Maui Moisture Strength & Anti-Breakage Agave Hair Mask: As important as a regular face mask, a hair mask is crucial to keeping your hair in it’s best shape (especially over summer). With aloe-vera, coconut water, honey and pineapple oil, this mask hydrates and repairs for stronger locks (find it at priceline.com.au).

I had a sample of Neutrogena Hydro Mask and I really liked it, worth purchasing.
Maybelline Fit Me Foundation is great for the price. Really good coverage and long lasting. And shade is spot on for me.

I think my favorite budget buy would have to be the Almay Eye make up remover pads. 100 pads in a tub normally but I managed to get a couple of tubs with 25% extra included so 125 pads. The two tubs will last me a year and for less then $6.

My daughters swear by The Ordinary.
I have ordered Pixie from Sephora and waiting for it to arrive. Let’s hope it lives up to the hype.

Lanolips is very expensive compared to other lanolin.
La Roche Posay is a French Pharmacy brand which is a world apart from US drugstore brands - it's price is higher too.
All great brands but hardly "budget". Get it together BH!

Great lather leaving beautiful soft clean bristles
I bought this at the same time I bought my first Eco Tools brush, and a silicone brush cleaning scrub pad.
Soft bristles, easy to clean
I bought this foundation brush to apply my facial clay masks! I have a separate foundation brush for applying liquid foundation so it makes it easy to compare.
Like a getting a head massage
I was lucky enough to be apart of the trial for the Lady Jayne Flexi-Glide Brush. It promises to detangle both wet and dry hair painlessly while providing a head massage.
