The best skin care tools to try

So, you’ve stocked up on skin care products, but what about the tools and accessories to use with them?
Using your fingers to cleanse and exfoliate is totally fine, but you’ll be amazed at the seriously deep clean and radiant glow that follows after using a cleansing tool.
Not sure which one’s for you? Read on to find our pick of the best skin care tools to try and why…

FACIAL CLOTHS
If you’re still using a regular face cloth to wash your face, it’s time to upgrade. Standard face cloths are far too harsh on the skin, and can pull at the delicate skin around your eye area. Treat yourself to a softer and gentler face cloth specifically made for cleansing your face. They’re great at gently yet thoroughly buffing away impurities and dead skin cells.
So how do I use a facial cloth?
Wet your face and the facial cloth with warm water and apply a dollop of cleanser or exfoliator to the cloth. Gently smooth it over your skin using circular motions. Remember to rinse and wring out your cloth after each use and hang it to dry. Throw it into the washing machine once a week to keep it clean and free from bacteria.

FACIAL SPONGES
Rather than just popping your cleanser straight onto your skin and massaging it over your face, step it up a notch with the help of a facial sponge. Designed to help draw out dead skin cells, make-up and impurities from deep within the skin, they’re amazing at thoroughly cleansing skin and lightly exfoliating it at the same time.
So how do I use a facial sponge?
Dampen both your face and the sponge with warm water and apply a pea-sized amount of your cleanser to the sponge. Gently massage the sponge over your entire face using circular motions – but avoid rubbing the skin, as this can cause redness and irritation.

ELECTRIC CLEANSING BRUSHES
Haven’t used a cleansing device yet? Now’s the time to invest in one! While cleansing with your fingers is good, you’ll be amazed at how an electronic device can benefit your complexion. They’re surprisingly gentle, and work to deeply cleanse pores and boost radiance. They also allow your other skin care products to penetrate deeper into the skin, and can even help your make-up to sit better. What’s not to love?!
So how do I use a cleansing device?
Smooth your cleanser over damp skin, then switch on the cleansing device and gently massage it in circular motions over your entire face. Keep your device clean by always rinsing and drying it off after use.

MANUAL CLEANSING BRUSHES
Just like how a facial cloth cleanses and exfoliates your skin, a manual cleansing brush is also a great way to nail two skin care steps in one. The soft bristles on the brush will work hard to dislodge grime and dirt from deep within your skin, while whisking away dulling and pore-clogging dead skin cells.
So how do I use a manual cleansing brush?
Wet your face with warm water and smooth your cleanser over your skin. Now, don’t be tempted to scrub your skin with the brush – for best results, avoid pressing it too firmly onto your skin. Gently buff it over your skin using circular motions. Don’t forget to focus on those often neglected areas like around your hairline, the corners of your nose and your jawline.

A warm flannel is lovely and warming, and helps remove clay masks too

I hadn't thought to use an electric cleansing brush. This sounds like a good investment to get a really deep down cleanse.

I don't use any of these but they all sound like good ideas that would give better results than the usual cleanse.

I recently started using a konjac sponge and it is great. It's so much more gentle than using a wash cloth and you can gently clean around your nose and eyes without breaking any capillaries or tugging at skin. There are quite a few options out there at the moment with a big range in price. I started out with a pricey one and decided to try out a cheaper one. The only difference is that the cheaper one was bigger and softer. You need to replace it every couple of months because it starts breaking down after a while. I'm converted!

thanks for this! I do not like idea of brushing my face (and creating microtears), so the sponge sounds good

I wouldn't mind trying a facial cloth, at least it's in my price range

I have a skin brush machine that I use on myself, but still find that cleansing and using a toner afterwards is just as effective.

would love to try a facial cleansing brush but they're so expensive and i don't know if it's totally worth it when my skin doesn't have too many problems to begin with

I got a facial cloth from the body shop a few years ago but the different types of brushes all seem like they're a lot more effective, time to invest I think!

I'm happy to use cotton makeup remover pads with a natural creamy cleanser. I follow with a natural alcohol-free toner to remove all residue. I've been experimenting with cleansing cloths such as microfibre and muslin, and they're great with a cleanser that doesn't get all the foundation out of the larger pores. I sometimes use a Chux wipe to remove masks. I tried a konjac sponge but when I looked at my face in the mirror the next day with foundation on, I could see a subtle scratchiness. I must have over-used it, but the sponge went in the bin.

Thanks for the info! I can not decide what to get, never used any tools, and considering to start. So even sponges no good?
