Brooke Shields Just Spilled All Her Beauty Tips And Tricks

Unlike a lot of celebrities who have formed a passion for skin care after spending hours in a glam chair, Brooke Shields’s career had the opposite impact on her. During an appearance on Vogue‘s YouTube channel, the model walked viewers through her daily skin care routine, in which she said: “I never really spent a great deal of time on my skin or my face because it was a job to me, I really didn’t prioritise it as much as I should have.”

Today, Brooke has a newfound appreciation for the “ritual” of skin care, as she joked “this 56-year old skin needed it. Obviously everything is a little lower than it used to be”.

However, this is news to us, as standing in her bathroom, makeup-free, Brooke looks like a woman who hasn’t missed a day of rigorous skin care in her life.

Kicking things off with the True Botanicals Renew Nourishing Cleanser ($48, Amazon), Brooke ran viewers through her entire routine (which also included the 111SKIN Sub-Zero De-Puffing Eye Masks, $133 at MECCA), while discussing her beauty tips and tricks both past and present.

Her stance on retinol…

Speaking of  anti-ageing superstars, Brooke revealed that when she’s used retinol in the past,  “I’ve gotten really irritated and sort of dry and almost flaky.” However, since introducing the True Botanicals Phyto-Retinol Vitamin A Booster, she’s discovered the capsules to be a “much kinder way of using retinol.”

As far as diet goes….

Over the years, the model has tried everything when it comes to experimenting with her diet. It wasn’t until recently that she “reintroduced everything” after cutting out dairy and red meat for 13 years. “As I have gotten older, I’ve just listened to my cravings,” she said.  She does, however, maintain discipline in regards to drinking. “If im preparing for something I just cut out the alcohol,” she revealed. “That is definitely the worse thing I do for my skin, it dehydrates me.”

A skin care sentiment that’s frequently echoed…

“I wish that I had worn my sunscreen as a kid” revealed the model.  “I was from the era of ‘put baby oil and tin foil around a record and hold it [above your face]’. Terrible for you.”

As far as makeup goes…

In spite of her years as a model— when makeup was all about high drama and over the top glam — Brooke champions the “less is more” look.

Brooke’s daily routine consists of foundation, concealer, and bronzer, followed by a wash of eyeshadow, mascara, lip liner, gloss, and a quick touch up of the brows. Though as we can probably all agree, they really don’t need any touching up at all.

The end result? “Glowy, refreshed and ready.”

  1. Wow, she looks great! She was pretty famous when I was a teen, Blue Lagoon, Endless Love, lots of modelling photos, including the famous Calvin Klein’s jeans ad when she was topless at 15, I think? I loved her brief appearance on Friends as the crazy lady and her unplucked eyebrows which always made me feel better about never plucking mine.

  2. Another natural beauty – love when BH showcases these celebs that just age gracefully. I’m also wishing I had worn SPF when I was younger, it just wasn’t the in thing back in the 70’s and 80’s.

  3. I’m only a little younger than Brooke, & I also sunbaked with baby oil – but I’ve never heard of the tin foil over a record trick. I use sunscreen daily now, but I wish I’d started sooner.

Sunscreen, retinol & eye masks – YES!

  4. Wish I started with SPF earlier. Still not fully on the retinol train but wish I had known about it earlier. Not sure past me would’ve been able to afford all the skincare I use now though.

  5. I really agree with how i should’ve used my sunscreen as a kid. I’ve been doing my best as an adult adding spf into my routine its been hard but if i had used it since i was a kid it would be easy to use it now on a daily

  6. I’m from the era where we slathered ourselves with baby oil and fried in the sun. I only did this because my friends did it. They developed tans and my fair skin became painfully red. I developed broken capillaries on my cheeks from doing this.
