As a bride to be, your to-do list is probably a little (or a lot) overwhelming. And between saying yes to the dress, deciding on your wedding day fragrance and doing your best to keep calm, your bridal skin prep is probably the last thing on your mind.
So to help relieve some of your stress, we chatted to celebrity facialist Ingrid Seaburn to get her top bridal skin prep tips to help you curate the perfect wedding beauty timeline. Get ready to say “I do” to your glowiest skin yet!
DO refine your pre-wedding skin care routine well in advance
Like any good investment, radiant wedding skin takes time to perfect – about 12 months according to Ingrid. “The best results always take a reasonable amount of time for your skin to show the benefits of accumulative care,” explains Ingrid.
Once you’ve tried and tested a few products, it’s best to adopt a ‘less is more’ approach to your skin care routine. Ingrid’s top tip? “Active serums containing retinol, vitamin C and antioxidants are the most important part of your routine, always.”
DON’T wear heavy makeup in the weeks before the wedding
We’re all for a full-glam look, but layering on the makeup can lead to clogged pores and skin irritations – especially when it’s not removed properly. Try swapping your foundation for a skin tint or opting for skin care-makeup hybrid products a couple of weeks before your wedding. That way, you can still conceal any areas you feel need a little touch-up whilst still allowing your skin to breathe.
DO start your bridal skin prep early
Good things take time, especially when it comes to creating your wedding day glow. Ingrid suggests starting your wedding skin prep with a professional at least six months out from your big day. “This means that your therapist has time to properly sort out any current skin issues, as well as create a program to have your skin looking at its best on your big day,” she says. And it’s always a good idea to book monthly treatments such as peels, laser rejuvenation or a good old facial to help boost your skin health.
DON’T forget to nourish your skin from the inside out
Healthy skin starts from within, and the best way to boost your glow is via a healthy lifestyle. Ingrid suggests upping your water intake and avoiding too much dairy and saturated fats to keep your skin from feeling and looking dehydrated.
“There is no better way to maintain healthy skin than maintaining a healthy lifestyle, getting plenty of sleep and sticking to a good nutritionally based diet while being dedicated to nightly skin care rituals at bedtime,” she says.
DO limit your alcohol consumption before your wedding
Whilst we’re all for a glass of bubbly (or two), it turns out that alcohol actually dehydrates your skin. “[Alcohol] can lead to skin being prone to breakouts and rashes out of nowhere due to lowered immune health,” Ingrid explains. And let’s face it, pre-wedding stress plus alcohol is a recipe for breakout disaster.
So to help preserve your bridal glow, it’s best to limit your pre-wedding drinking. Stick to water to help keep your skin hydrated and you can always add some collagen for a delicious beauty mocktail that’s guaranteed to make you glow.
DON’T try new skin care trends before consulting a professional
Thanks to TikTok, there seems to be a new viral beauty trend or product every week. And trust us when we say we get the temptation to try them all, but messing with your carefully curated wedding skin regimen can prove disastrous.
Ingrid explains that it’s essential to “take the time to research and understand good skin care products that are not just about hype and actually prevent and reverse signs of damage.”

Are you a bride-to-be? What does your wedding skin care look like?
I’m not a bride-to-be but would love to have a geneo facial.
Probably will never marry but nice to know.
Haha, I feel the same way
I didn’t think about my skin at all before the wedding other than booking a make up artist. Fortunately my skin was fine and I was happy with the make up applied.
I had a lovely facial a couple of days prior and then a light makeup on the day -still me and not artificial
No, not a bride to be, one day I look forward to being Mother-of-the-bride
The only preparation I did for my skin before the wedding was to hire a professional makeup artist. I was nervous about how my snake game skin would look. I was fortunate in that my skin was fine, and I was thrilled with how the makeup turned out.
Why is there a link in your comment?
Oh that happened ages ago.
I am not. If were I would change nothing.
Not a bride to be. Looks like a great way to self care pre wedding prep.
Been there done that. Had no time to fuss about with skin as had just moved house and our wedding was in our garden, lots of work to get the property prepared
My sister had her wedding in the garden and it was so lovely -We all had an awesome day-It is about celebrating a lovely day with the bride and groom and being happy
Was a wedding in your garden more stressful? As in more you had to do?
More stress for brides-to-be! Call it suggestions not dos and don’ts. I organised my (long ago) wedding very quickly so like S-P I just had a make up (and hair) artist.
I think try to relax prior to your wedding and pick a make up person that does not overdo your look -This should be a happy day and you should be able to enjoy your day Just being you !!!
All very good tips!
I agree. Very good tips.
Some helpful tips.
I wouldn’t change my skincare. I have a great routine already.
Look like YOU not someone who doesn’t reflect who you are with makeup that is so different from what you usually have. Make it simple but natural.
If I wore simple but natural, nobody would recognise me, haha!
But I’m dedicated to being single for life!
I looked so different! I had two sets of false eyelashes on. I didn’t even recognise me.
I guess this is good advice for your skin in general. Everyone wants their skin looking their best
I agree with that.
Wow, that’s where I went wrong, I didn’t do any of these steps.
In saying that I break out from stress and planning the wedding was a lot of stress.
Good to always look after your skin
Weddings are always so exciting. Lots of work but worth it I think.
I consider those tips to be basic common sense.
All good advice, hormones can affect the skin too
Early skin prep is so important for brides-to-be
Ha, I just more of the same but I did have my makeup done professionally.
I got married three months after he asked me, so I didn’t have the kind of lead time this article suggests!

When my daughter got married, I hardly recognised her because of how lovely the professional make up artist did with make up.
