The star who puts mayonnaise on her hair

bh’s Liv swears Blake Lively has the best hair she’s ever seen, but even our trusty Hair Editor could never have guessed how the blonde beauty gets her locks looking so damn luscious.

“A super-expensive hair mask?” I hear you ask. “Or an in-salon treatment?” Nope, Blake Lively’s secret weapon is mayonnaise.

You heard right. The creamy condiment usually reserved for hot chips and chicken sandwiches is also apparently a hair saviour.

And even though Miss Lively undoubtedly has a huge budget to blow on premium beauty buys, it seems she still appreciates the DIY approach.

Speaking to Byrdie about her role as the face of Gucci’s Première perfume, the former Gossip Girl actress dished on the DIY treatment responsible for her dreamy ‘do.

The best part? The inspiration came from none other than her mum: “My mom taught me this really great beauty tip. She used to put oil or mayonnaise on the bottom half of her hair before she would shower.

“That way, when she would shampoo, the soap wouldn’t strip the bottom of the hair and dry it out, making it brittle.”

We already know that tea can be used in your beauty regime, but mayo? Well, I’m not sure it’s for me.

If you’re feeling the same way (but still want lustworthy locks), I recommend trying a more traditional hair treatment such as Moroccanoil Intense Hydrating Mask or Al’chemy Ginkgo & Jojoba Intense Moisture Vitamin Masque.

On the other hand, if you do decide to crank out the condiment, heed this advice: rinse thoroughly!

Would you use mayonnaise on your hair? What other unusual DIY beauty tricks do you swear by?
