Beauty Products He’s Not Currently Using But Would Probably Love

Do you have a man in your life who hasn’t the faintest clue when it comes to beauty products? Same.

And it’s such a shame too because they’re really missing out. After all, beauty products are for everyone – regardless of gender. Plus, more often than not, when nudged in the right product direction, they’re hooked after the first try.

So if you’re looking to introduce a few game-changers into his routine (so he can see what all the fuss is about), we’ve got some stellar suggestions…

#1 An after-shave moisturiser

You know, he probably thinks that dry, tight and red-raw feeling post-shave is normal. So imagine his delight when he discovers the power a humble moisturiser has at making skin comfortable again. Just make sure it’s a low-irritant formula like TriShave 3in1 Post Shave Moisturising Lotion SPF 30+ (great if he’s a morning shaver with the added sun protection!).

We also love a classic sorbolene cream like the Kenkay® Sorbolene Cream with 10% Vegetable Glycerin for scaly skin. Or treat him to the soothing sensation like the Natio Calming Aftershave Balm or Lab Series 3-in-1 Post-Shave.

#2 Colour-restoring hair products

Discovering grey hairs can knock anyone’s confidence. And if he’s not ready to embrace a salt and pepper mane just yet (although, hello George Clooney), there are some products that can help him camouflage without committing to a complete all-over colour.

Restoria Discreet Colour Restoring Shampoo is one such clever invention. It helps to gradually and gently restore natural-looking colour to grey hair – no ammonia or peroxide necessary. Just For Men Shampoo-In Haircolour is a similar in-shower hair hero and both work best when evenly combed through (we love a Rock & Ruddle Pocket Comb). Or if it’s for one-off special occasions, Schwarzkopf Hair Mascara provides a quick fix.

#3 Beard and moustache tamers

The relationship between a man and his facial hair is sacred. They sure are fond of the whiskers they grow. And as such, they should really take care of them.

A beard oil like Urbane Mess Beard Oil, muk Haircare mr muk Beard Oil or the Sebastian Professional SEB MAN The Groom Hair and Beard Oil work wonders for turning tough, prickly hair into soft and touchable coverage.

#4 A lip balm and hand cream

Nobody is immune to chapped lips and rough hands. And if he’s outdoors and on the tools a lot, chances are the skin in these areas has been severely neglected.

It may take a little convincing at first, but once he’s privy to the life-changing hydration a simple lip balm can provide, he’ll be hooked. Trust us. Try easing him in with a simple tube of paw paw; Natralus Natural Paw Paw Lip Butter and Dermal Therapy™ Lip Balm Enriched With PawPaw are both goodies.

As for hand cream, strategically place one on his bedside table and encourage its use before his head hits the pillow. This way, he can’t complain about it feeling ‘sticky’ (that’s just what hydration feels like mate) because all he’s about to do is sleep. Try the HANDSOME Antibacterial Hand Cream or DU’IT Tough Hands if some manly packaging will help.

  1. My hubby wouldn’t know what a beauty product was even if it hit him in the face. He’s very low maintenance which is probably good for me in some ways because he won’t be stealing my products.

  2. I wondered why we were helping Patrick Dempsey at first! My husband is definitely not the beauty product type, and probably hasn’t forgiven me since I rubbed air freshener into his sun burn instead of after sun gel (the bottles were very similar)!

  3. My husband is one of those people unfortunately that wouldn’t use Male Skincare Products. Unlike Patrick Dempsey and the new generation of Men who have been brought up that you can still use Skincare Products even if they are not designed for Men.

My husband does little Men’s Fragrances and uses them every day after he shaves.

  4. My husband’s skin is extremely oily and he looks like he hasn’t aged a day since we married over 20 years ago, so no moisturizers or glow needed for him. As for his hair, it’s turning a distinguished grey and there’s no way he’d consider colouring it.

  5. My hubby hasn’t tried any of the above products, I’ve also purchased skincare from men’s lines and his not used them. I’ve also tried encouraging him to use mine still to no avail. Although if I offered to do a face mask or exfoliation for him he would happily let me and enjoy it…

  6. I sprayed some of my mist toner on my Husband’s face the other night when he was brushing his teeth with his eyes closed lol. Looked like he secretly enjoyed the cool mist feeling 🙂

  7. I think the younger generation of men are looking after themselves a bit better than the older generations. They seem to be into the beard and hair trends and using the products that go along with it as well as skin products. Good luck try to get guys around 45 and over to start using beauty products, most see it as “unmasculine”.

  8. Thankfully hubby is now using a moisturiser every day. He has very sensitive skin so any natural products I try I leave at his end of the vanity and quite often he comments on what he thinks of them. Some things I just won’t give him access to like my two bottles of the Boost Lab Resurfacing Serum.

There’s no way he would colour his hair, and he doesn’t need a beard oil or such but he uses an aftershave balm.

Every time a beauty products parcel arrives he asks if there is anything for him – so I suppose he’s taking an interest in his old age.

  9. I had to create a chart of products for my husband to indicate application order, with pictures of the products so that there’s no confusion (cleanser -> serum -> moisturiser -> sunscreen (AM). It has separate AM and PM sections. It is stuck on the bathroom wall next to the basin. To his credit, he is keeping up with the routine most days!

  10. so many don’t care too much. My daughter’s boyfriend is probably the best at it – liking the Aveda Cherry Blossom products (he used my daughter’s and loves it) and the Handsome face moisturiser he loves to use too. I think if we threw an exfoliator his way he’d probably use it. He’s 42 so maybe age can have a bit to do with it?

  11. My brother likes the Handsome face moisturiser I gave him and my daughter’s boyfriend also likes using that too. They are 47 and 42 respectively so maybe that is the first age group that likes this sort of thing as my hubby is 54 and isn’t that into it at all – though he does like using his electrical trimmer!
