In today’s society, it’s no surprise that many people associate being younger with being more ‘beautiful’ or ‘sexier’. But has anyone stopped to think how this makes our mums, aunties, sisters, or even ourselves, feel?

NIVEA has conducted a study that found 68 per cent of women say that society makes them feel invisible as they age, and 74 per cent feel they need to adapt their style to become more conservative as they age. For 80 per cent, age-ism is a reality.

However, 94 per cent believe we should be more mindful of helping older women feel visible and that we should remind them of their worth, and NIVEA believe this starts with their daughters. This is why the global beauty brand has has launched the NIVEA Q10 Stand Firm campaign to ask mothers and daughters to #StandFirm together and help boost each other’s confidence.

Media commentator Bianca Dye has joined the campaign to help rally women to stand firm and share positive affirmations with each other. “Life can whiz by so fast. One day you are the ‘life of the party’, feeling amazing, being told how fabulous you are, and then like a giant slap in the face from the universe… it stops. Why?”

“Just because we are getting older does not mean we are not getting MORE fabulous and wiser. But society tends to ignore women over fifty. You just seem to become invisible.”

But to Bianca, feeling invisible begins far before you hit your fifties. “I definitely feel way more invisible than I did when I was 32 and voted ‘sexiest woman in radio’! I totally can relate to losing confidence and feeling more open to being judged if I wear a short skirt, or simply just not being noticed.”

“It’s time to reclaim our fabulousness and remind ourselves to shed some of that light and love and compliments and pay it back to our mums, sisters, friends!”
