Why you need Q10 for anti-ageing

We all have days when we're low in energy. You might feel sluggish and are probably not on your A-game. The same can be said for your skin, which relies on a steady energy source to keep skin-cell renewal working at its optimal level. Sitting right at the centre of energy production is a little ingredient called coenzyme Q10 (aka CoQ10).
The good news: while CoQ10 occurs naturally in the body, you can also apply it directly to the skin where it helps tackle the signs of ageing. Win!
So, what is Q10 and why do you need it in your anti-ageing skin care regimen? Let us explain the benefits...
How can CoQ10 help your skin?
CoQ10 is like an energy source that helps to supercharge your body’s renewal processes. “Q10 is an enzyme that exists in the body. It occurs in the liver, lungs, heart and skin and is responsible for cellular energy production,” explains Robyn Hutch, NIVEA Skincare Expert. “This allows the skin to complete functions like renewing and regenerating and therefore allows it to look more youthful.” But the value of this little powerhouse doesn’t end there. “It’s also an antioxidant and helps to fight free radicals,” says Robyn.
Why add it to your skin care routine?
“As we age, the level of coenzyme Q10 in the body drops and so does energy production. Coenzyme Q10 is a key ingredient in energy production,” explains Robyn. Luckily, there’s a way to help combat this. “Using a product with coenzyme Q10 can help boost the level of this ingredient in the skin, in order for it to complete its natural processes, as well as fight lines and wrinkles.” The latest beauty on the block to help address these signs of ageing is the new NIVEA Q10 Plus Replenishing Pearls. This serum contains the highest concentration of Q10 within the entire NIVEA range and is also enriched with two other key age-fighting ingredients, hyaluronic acid and creatine.
How can hyaluronic acid and creatine make CoQ10 even more effective?
In a nutshell, these three ingredients combine to act like a powerful energy booster for your skin, supercharging the skin’s energy levels for faster anti-ageing results. “Along with coenzyme Q10, creatine is an energy booster for your skin. It plays a vital role in the body’s energy metabolism, releasing it where needed to aid in cell functions – especially the skin’s repair and defence mechanisms,” Robyn explains.
Meanwhile, hyaluronic acid is excellent for boosting hydration. “As we age our skin not only lacks energy but can also start to become drier. Hyaluronic acid is a key moisturising ingredient that has an ability to bind water,” Robyn notes. “When these ingredients are used together, they can help the skin appear plumper, smoother, and more youthful-looking.”
The NIVEA Q10 Plus Replenishing Pearls contains pearls of CoQ10 which are suspended in the gel-like formula. When the product is dispensed from the pump, the pearls burst and combine with the hyaluronic acid and creatine for a freshly activated formula with every use.
How should you use it?
Adding this serum to your skin care routine is simple: Robyn suggests using it once or twice daily. “Simply use a cleanser that is suited to your skin type, then apply the NIVEA Q10 Plus Anti-Wrinkle Replenishing Pearls, then follow with your day or night cream.” An added bonus is that results are relatively speedy. “When used regularly, you should start to see results in two to three weeks,” she says.
Are you seeing the signs of ageing in your skin? Did you know about Q10 and its anti-ageing benefits?

I'm currently using at the moment Q10 anti-wrinkle night cream from Nivea, I've tried other brands & they work great but expensive & big packaging with less of the product not happy with that where as Nivea creams are just right. I haven't notice that much of a difference on my face but I'm still using it & it does feel good on my skin.

Interesting article. I haven't tried products with COQ10 in my skincare routine yet but have been using Hyaluronic acid from last few months and my dry skin just loves it. At the moment I am enjoying the Hyaluronic acid from Korean beauty brand Holika Holika.

If I didn't have breakout prone skin I would have the nicest and most looked after skin in the world (ok maybe I'm exaggerating here) but the point is I wish I could use anti ageing stuff without having to worry about me breaking out!

Before using Nivea Q10, I started using a cheaper brand of skin care called Derma Intensive Q10 from Coles. After reading this article, I'm now glad I did. Even though I couldn't afford the more expensive Nivea Brand at the time, at least I made a wise choice among the cheaper brands.

Interesting article, q10 has been around for so long that I think it gets a bit over looked with all the new cult ingredients.
