3 women tell all about the ageing process – page 2

LIZ KELSH – makeup artist and Max Factor ambassador

How old are you?
Hmmmm obviously older than the person asking this question or they would know not to ask (laughs). Point taken, Liz!

What do you enjoy most about getting older?
While ageing is not at the top of anyone’s favourites list there is however one major upside…  knowledge. This, and the amount of experience you accumulate both professionally and personally are such useful tools that you can only acquire with time.

Has ageing been what you thought it would be? Has anything surprised you?
I’m actually surprised at how little it bothers me to be honest. Having been a very vain teenager and face-obsessed in my 20s, I would have thought it would bother me more. But what are you going to do? It’s part of life and as my granny used to say, “I love my wrinkles, it means I’m alive.” As a makeup artist, I don’t take ageing lying down but I think it’s important to change the things you can and accept the things you can’t. Then of course, there’s always makeup; makeup makes everything better.

Where do you see yourself in 10 years?
I’m working on lots of exciting projects at the moment, so hopefully they will be in full swing. I’m also very lucky to consider the world’s most beautiful women (and a couple of guys) among my clients, many of whom I have been working with for 15 years or more, so I see them as being a big part of my future.

What is your one piece of advice for young women who are worried about ageing?
Look after your skin, both from the inside and out, now. The face you have in your 20s is the face you were born with, the face you have in your 40s is the face you deserve. So look after your skin now, have a healthy diet and positive outlook on life and this will show in your skin in later years.

How has your beauty routine changed as you’ve gotten older?
As skin ages, its renewal process slows down a lot, so I’ve really had to up my exfoliation game. I use both chemical and mechanical exfoliants on my face and body. It’s a workout, however exfoliation really is key in the anti-ageing battle and makes skin look more radiant. I find active products are most effective.

Editor’s note: bh recommends Skin Doctors™ Gamma Hydroxy and Paula’s Choice Skin Perfecting 8% AHA Gel Exfoliant, which use active ingredients such as AHAs to exfoliate and renew the skin.

What’s your all-time favourite beauty product?
My two anti-ageing must-haves are SK-II Whitening Source Derm Revival Masks and Max Factor False Lash Effect Mascara. Time takes a lot of definition away from your eyes and nothing gives it back like my favourite mascara.
