The anti-ageing advice you’re ignoring

Considering how much advice (life, beauty, relationships – you name it) is dished out on a daily basis and numerous times on this site alone, it’s no real surprise that some of it goes in one ear and out the other.

No matter how many times I’ve been told, I still don’t use a heat protectant spray and I rarely exfoliate, but that’s OK because nobody is perfect.

However, I do believe there is one piece of beauty advice (anti-ageing in particular) that most of us ignore when we really, really shouldn’t.

I think you can guess where I’m going with this… looking after the neck and décolletage.

Quick, you’re losing me…

Yes, I know you’ve heard this all before! But I’m going to say it again: your neck and décolletage deserve just as much attention as your face. Because, while it’s great to have a complexion that you’ve clearly looked after by using the right products, so many of us make the mistake of thinking this is where our anti-ageing routine ends. And this can have visible results.

Sally Field is 67 years of age and absolutely stunning. Her complexion is quite smooth and radiant and she looks healthy and happy. But when comparing her face to her neck there is a difference. The skin on her neck appears looser and more dehydrated than her face, which tends to reveal a bit more about the actress’s age. If her neck was as smooth and as loved as her face, I would have guessed 57, not 67.

OK, I see your point, so what do I need to do?

It is so simple to avoid missing this ageing blindspot, but at the same time hard to remember about these areas when you’re already so set in your routine. But all you have to do is apply a cream such as Natio Renew Neck & Décolletage Cream, Clarins Extra-Firming Neck Creamor Meaningful Beauty Firming Chest and Neck Crème to your neck and décolletage, just the same as you apply moisturiser to your face, every morning and night.

bh top tip: Place these creams in front of your regular skin care products, so you use these first and only continue with your usual skin routine once your neck and chest have been tended to.

I already have so many lotions, there’s no room in my budget for more!

I hear you, sister, and don’t worry, there’s no need to fret. If you’re already using an anti-ageing moisturiser, such as Estée Lauder Revitalizing Supreme Global Anti-Ageing Crème or Jurlique Nutri-Define Multi-Correcting Day Cream, you can just extend the reach of these products to your neck and décolletage. Simply use gentle upward strokes from your chest to your chin and then proceed with your face as normal. I suggest doing the neck and chest first so you don’t forget and it becomes a habit in your routine.

Do you tend to forget about your neck and décolletage when it comes to anti-ageing skin care? What are your tips for remembering about these areas?
