Anne Hathaway certainly took this old adage to heart when she unveiled a new ‘do at the New York premiere of her forthcoming flick Bride Wars. She teamed her long (read extensioned) – but might I add, super-sheeny – locks with a black suit and gold Louboutins. The whole fail-safe red carpet shebang, no? Well in a word no. Not for me.
I’m sure there are legions of Anne fans out there who are up in arms now, but hold your horses – let me explain. I like Anne (and not just because I felt sorry for her over the whole Italian rascal scandal – although I did); I love her lob (long bob: très chic mon ami) and let’s not forget it was her/Andy’s bangs that pioneered the return of the fringe (that I then shamefacedly plagiarised). But I don’t know, there’s just something I’m not feeling about this. Perhaps it’s because I read somewhere that she looks a bit like Sporty Spice circa the Wannabe years and thought, yes! Yes she does. It’s uncanny – I bet she’s even got her Adidas trackie pants on under the suit.
So I’m sorry Anne, love the brows (fess up – you’ve been using Eylure Eyebrow Stencils haven’t you?), would give my left arm to know what powder you keep in your clutch but the extensions and Alice band? They’re yours my darling. What I want, what I really, really want is not to see you in those again. Bring back the lob, bring back the lob!
