Why do I have so many pores on my nose?
Pores are actually the top of hair follicles. And each pore contains a sebaceous gland which naturally produce oil called sebum. However, everyone is born with different sized pore openings. Since your pore size is mainly due to genetics, it means that either of your parents have, or had, large pores, making that the reason why you do, too.
But why are pores more noticeable on your nose you ask? The nose area is where your body normally produces the most oil, so these pores can become clogged quite easily, in turn making them appear more apparent to the eye.
What causes enlarged pores on your face?
Unfortunately, the pores on your face have the ability to grow in size. This is usually a result of of a buildup of excess sebum, dirt, bacteria and dead skin cells. When your pores become clogged, they stretch out to accommodate the excess debris, and appear enlarged.
Blackheads can also stretch out your pores. When excess oil is trapped by dead skin cells it can oxide and make a pore look black and bigger.
Another factor is collagen which is vital in keeping our pores tight and small, but a lack of it can also result in large pores. As we age, and also due to UV sun damage, collagen can weaken, and our pores can enlarge. Guilty of picking a pimple? This simple act also has the ability to do long-term damage to your pores.
Skin type and colour can also determine your pore size. Those with fair skin usually have smaller pores, whereas, olive and dark skin types normally have large pores. And if you normally have dry skin, your pores will be small, but those with oily skin will often have much more visible pores.
