How-to: deep clean your pores

Blocked pores? Make-up, dirt, oil and pollutants are all major culprits, so it’s essential to de-congest your pores regularly as part of your skin care routine.
In the video above, bh's Michelle shares three different methods for deep cleaning your pores.
Don’t feel like watching our video? Read on to discover three easy ways to get clearer, cleaner pores at home.
METHOD #1: Thorough, regular cleansing.
Use a high-quality daily cleanser that removes grime while nourishing skin. To amp up the benefits of your cleanser, pair it with an electronic cleansing brush.
METHOD #2: Daily exfoliation
Exfoliating gets rid of debris, clearing pores and leading to a brighter complexion. Look for one that is gentle enough for everyday use so you don’t irritate your skin.
METHOD #3: Facial steaming
Pour some boiling water into a large bowl and let it sit for a few minutes. Then, lean over the bowl and place a towel over your head to keep the steam in. Do this for about five minutes. This will warm up and loosen the top layer of skin so it releases trapped impurities.

I use to have a little face steaming kit as a teenager who new it was such a great item :) might give a steam a go, or a good facial so I can relax in quiet instead of having to share with the kids

So I've never gotten into facial steaming at home, but I have a question: are you meant to exfoliate before or after a facial steaming? The article says steaming helps to release trapped impurities. Does that mean you need to do another cleanse after you've steamed? What's the steps?

I have actually used the Olay brush a few minutes ago and now have a pore strip stuck on my nose as I am reading this article! I am using a hydrating mask on the other areas of my face while I wait for the pore strip to dry.

I haven't done the facial steaming in a long time. Think I will try a few of the methods suggested and see what works best. I have had a problem with blackheads since puberty and that was a long time ago.

I do facial steaming once a fortnight followed by a scrub. It makes my skin so soft and helps in getting rid of all dead skin.

Love the spa treatment of a facial steam. Add a few lemon slices or lemon oil. Bliss!

I choose not to exfoliate daily due to the irritation it can cause however I keep wanting to buy a Clarisonic to use but am also concerned this will do the same thing! I am going to try the steaming though. Thanks for the tip! :)

I will try facial steaming tomorrow next week that sounds great! I have just switched to sukin skin detox exfoliating scrub and I am in love with it! I use it twice a week and use witch hazel toner morning and night after cleansing which so far is working ok. No huge differences so far but an improvement.

I've had 2 mini facials professionally done and my skin/ pores are less obvious. At home i don't use exfoliation anymore but i use a toner to get that deep clean for my pores and I'm happy with the improvement so far. The facial steam is a great one to try on a cold night before bed.
