Boost your skin's health from within

The benefits of skin supplements are countless. Rich in skin-loving vitamins, nutrients and minerals, adding a supplement to your diet each day will see your skin glowing in no time.
Whether they come in tablet, liquid, powder or oil form, skin supplements are in abundance and, quite frankly, choosing the best one for you can be a little overwhelming.
So, what type of supplement is best for you? It comes down to what kind of support your skin needs and how you prefer to incorporate it into your routine each day. We’ve broken down the different kinds of skin supplements on the market and the benefits that will see your skin sing.
Tablets
If you feel like your skin is in need of some extra support, carry a bottle of skin supplement tablets in your handbag or leave them in your desk drawer to up your skin’s health each day. Usually high in antioxidants and collagen-building ingredients, taking skin supplement tablets regularly can help keep skin soft, supple and protected, while minimising issues such as breakouts.
Try: Skin B5 Acne Control Caplets, Danné Montague-King efa+
Powders
Bursting with an array of vitamins, minerals and super greens, powder supplements are your skins’ edible answer to a super-charged topical serum. Mixed into water, smoothies, coconut water or juice, or sprinkled on salads or yoghurt, powder supplements support the function of skin cells and contain probiotics and an abundance of nutrients to cleanse the body and promote skin health.

Liquids
Do you drink a glass of juice or water with your breakfast each day? Why not boost your skin’s health at the same time by adding a splash of a liquid supplement? Rich in vitamin A, liquid chlorophyll is excellent for nourishing the skin while also promoting cell rejuvenation. Other liquid supplements for skin health usually contain silica to aid in collagen formation in the skin, keeping your complexion plump and youthful.
Try: BioSource Chlorophyll Liquid, $9.99, www.priceline.com.au, Swisse Ultiboost Hair Skin Nails Liquid 200mL, $21.95, www.swisse.com/au
Oils
We all know the perks of putting oils on our skin – hydration, anti-ageing benefits, and an instant glow – but did you know certain types of oils are incredibly beneficial for our skin when taken orally? Take coconut oil for instance – it contains anti-microbial, anti-bacterial, anti-ageing compounds that moisturise and repair the skin from the inside out. What about the humble extra virgin olive oil? It has been proven to help slow down the ageing process and repair skin damage by adding a protective coating on the skin. Simply swallow a tablespoon each day or add to your meals and cooking.
Try: Bioglan Superfoods Organic Coconut Oil 300g, $14.30, www.bioglan.com.au

Interesting. I'm always wary of taking supplements, but I'm willing to try nearly anything to treat my acne

I don't take any supplements as such, but I currently include gelatin (collagen) in my diet and I've found a noticeable difference in my joints and my hair seems stronger too. It's supposed to be great for skin, although the results for that have been imperceptible so far.

I noticed my hair shedding towards the end of my Roaccutane treatment and started taking the Swisse Hair Skin and Nails supplement in tablet form. I think the shedding has slowed down because I don't see as much hair on my shower drain now when I wash my hair but I still see shedding in general.

Whilst it sounds good in theory, I get concerned about popping a whole bunch of pills to substitute what we should be getting out of our food!
