The best skin care routine for your 20s

Now that you’re a proper grown-up, it’s time to say adios to using whatever cleanser and moisturiser mum bought for you and truly think about what your skin needs.
In your twenties, your skin goes through some massive changes. Along with out-of-control hormones and uni or job stress, your complexion has to deal with the effects of countless late night Tinder dates and celebrating into the wee hours, “just ‘cause”.
And really, all you want is GLOWING, HEALTHY SKIN. Is that too much to ask? Well, not if you follow this simple guide to mastering an age-appropriate skin care in your twenties.
WASH THE DAY AWAY
Like brushing your teeth, it’s essential to cleanse your skin morning and night. Have you ever woken up with blissfully luminous skin after sleeping with your make-up on? Didn’t think so… Commit to cleansing with a pore-clearing, deep-cleaning wash, pronto! By rinsing away dirt, oil, and make-up, you’ll give your skin a much-needed breather after a long day, and reduce the risk of pimples and blackheads popping up.

GET SET TO SCRUB
So you’re cleansing religiously, but still breaking out and dealing with patchy, flaky make-up? It’s time to invest in a facial scrub to buff away those dead skin cells that are sitting on top of your skin, blocking pores and causing dryness. Once or twice a week, massage in a scrub after cleansing using circular motions. You’ll be amazed at how smooth and refreshed your skin feels afterwards!

MANAGE MOISTURE
Whacked out hormones can wreak havoc on your skin, leaving you with a dehydrated, dull complexion. Your skin cells crave water and need nourishing vitamins and antioxidants all day every day. Help your skin stay plump and firm by applying a light hydrating moisturiser with SPF during the day, and a richer nourishing cream at night.

FIGHT FINE LINES
Your twenties is the prime time to prevent and delay the onset of ageing. Keep fine lines and wrinkles at bay by adding an anti-ageing serum to your skin care routine morning and night. Serums contain a high concentration of active ingredients, which deeply penetrate the layers of your skin to do their thing. Choose one containing vitamins and antioxidants for revived, healthy, glowing skin.

I'm in my late 20s and have definitely simplified my routine. I stick to natural products, oils, etc., and they generally do the trick.

The best thing I used in my late 20s was Dermalogica hydrating booster. It was a life changer and my skin was much more smooth and less oily. Hydration was so important on young skin.

I'm 25 and my skincare routine srarts from the inside out. Plenty of water, good fats and herbal tea. I use minimal makeup on non-work days and generally have one makeup free day a week. I use micellar water to remove my makeup and cleanse, and then I use any of my anti-aging moisturisers depending on how my skin feels or coconut or jojoba oil if it's feeling very dry. I never go to bed with makeup on and I always use plenty of moisturiser.
