4 ways you’re sabotaging your skin

While some skin care mistakes may be obvious – like popping pimples and not taking off your make-up before bed – some nasty habits may be hiding in your regular day-to-day routine.

Read on to find out the ways your sabotaging skin without even knowing it…

SKIN SABOTEUR #1: PICKING AT YOUR SKIN

Have you ever caught yourself subconsciously picking at a pimple or the dry skin on your cheeks? We’ve all been there! But unfortunately picking at your skin can spread pimple-causing germs, cause your skin to bleed, and possibly lead to scarring or infection. Make conscious effort to keep your fingers away from your skin, and wash your hands before applying skin care and make-up.

SKIN SABOTEUR #2: PUTTING YOUR PHONE AGAINST YOUR FACE

Just think about it – we always clean our faces, but how often do we clean our phones? They’re usually with us all hours of the day and in all kinds of environments (don’t deny you’ve used your mobile in a bathroom!), so they tend to become a breeding ground for bacteria. Studies have shown that a mobile phone has 18 times more bacteria than a public bathroom (um, yuck!). Give your phone a swipe each day with an anti-bacterial wipe, and every couple of weeks, give the whole phone – case and all – a thorough clean.

SKIN SABOTEUR #3: WEARING MAKE-UP WHILE EXERCISING

We can totally see why you would wear make-up to the gym – you barely have time to change out of your work clothes and into your gym gear, let alone washing off a face full off make-up pre-spin class! Sweating is an excellent way for your skin to rid itself of pore-clogging nasties, but if you’re wearing make-up, they’re only going to get clogged even more. Before you break a sweat, save time – and your skin! – by giving your face a thorough clean with a deep-cleansing and make-up removing face wipe.

SKIN SABOTEUR #4: NOT WASHING PILLOW CASES REGULARLY

When was the last time you washed your pillowcases? If it’s more than three days agoyou may want to throw them in the washing machine now. Although you might be hitting the hay with clean skin, sweat, dead skin, and oils from your skin and hair can transfer to your pillowcase and cause the spread of bacteria, causing nasty breakouts and clogged pores. Try to wash your pillowcases in hot water every three days (or at least using the opposite side after three days) and avoid using a fabric softener as it can leave a pore-clogging waxy residue on the material.

Are you guilty of committing any of these skin saboteurs? Will you make a conscious effort to avoid making them?
