As a self-confessed lip balm addict, I have tried many. Way too many, most would argue. I don't know what it is about this skincare product in particular. Perhaps the fact that I have chronically dry lips, or it could be that the tiny packaging is always adorable. Regardless, lip balm has always been my favourite skincare product and I have read many a review and tried out dozens (that's being conservative).
After seeing a social media post where this particular product was highly recommended, I was doubtful. How can a lip balm be so good? Have never thought much of the Body Shop. Not that I dislike it at all, it was just never a go-to brand of mine. But after having awful reactions to my previous favourite lip balm (Hurraw), I was desperate for something new. Something life-changing.
[Enter the Body Shop Hemp Heavy Duty Lip Care]
This is the one. It truly is.
Upon first application, I noticed it to be a bit thicker than some I have loved and used before. But this is not a bad thing! It stays on for quite a while (1-3 hours during the day, which is impressive as I talk A Lot and when worn overnight, I'll wake up with the silky remnants still there). The thick texture is quite an advantage when worn under lipstick, as it won't make those gorgeous, sultry matte shades slide all over your pretty face. If this is a concern for you, apply a little with your finger whilst prepping your skin and by the time you're ready for lippy, wipe it away and you'll have a wonderful base.
Additionally, the scent is pleasant and subtle. A little hemp-y but I like it. Have had remarks that it tastes and smells a little like tea, so if you (or someone you're kissing) are into that, then it's a winner. It's quite a 'green' and fresh scent, which I think would be difficult to find offensive. However if you find it abhorrent at first sniff, I wouldn't recommend it to you as it does tend to linger. Not overwhelmingly so, but I'll occasionally get a waft of it throughout wear.
Perhaps it is a little pricier than other options but it's certainly cheaper and more effective than a lot of products out there.
This is the only balm that I have used until the very last drop. I mean scraping-it-out-of-the-tube-until-there-is-literally-nothing-left. Seriously.
I also really appreciate that it does not contain nut oil. As a person with allergies, I am conscious of the ingredients lists of skincare products in regards to this in particular. (Additionally, if you're sharing a sneaky snog with someone who you don't necessarily know well enough to have discussed intolerances and allergies with... it is likely a safe bet ;) )
