This deodorant is aluminium free and suitable for all skin types.
My initial thoughts on this product:
I went into The Body Shop to buy a gift for a girlfriend and of course I cruised the rest of the store, coming across the selection of products for men. I do prefer solid versus spray deodorants and anything that has leaning towards a more natural and effective approach will no doubt end up in my basket. That's how I ended up buying this deodorant for my husband. It comes in all the atypical masculine branding colours, with a clear cap to show you the product within. I checked out the tester and the staff encouraged me to use it on my skin. It's a solid but clear almost gel-like consistency which goes on smoothly. The scent wasn't strong either, and it was described to me as a deodorant that would appeal to both genders. I agreed. Win!
Thoughts on application:
So, you may be wondering why I'm writing this review? Well, hubby used this deodorant for a few weeks and had an unfortunate reaction to it, which is a real shame! Considering it's packed full of natural ingredients, including fair trade Brazil nut oil and Aloe Vera, I was very surprised. However, you can't excuse the rash he broke out with in both arm pits. So he is back on his usual spray (shame). So, I started using it after my other deodorant had used up. And I haven't looked back.
You don't need much per armpit, a simple slick will do twice a day for you to get great coverage. The scent is a light, slightly citrusy fragrance. It's hard for me to put my finger on it. The fragrance will not compete with any perfume you choose to put on for the day, so don't fret on that account.
The base is a wind-up so it is easy to use. Once done, just wind it back down and put the cap back on. When I first started using it, I discovered using it once a day (i.e. putting it on just after the shower) wasn't going to cut it. This deodorant is not an anti-perspirant or deodorant of commercial proportions one might be used to from Coles or Woolies, so be mindful. So, I put it on after my shower and then again when I wake up. The other bonus: I don't get any of that itchy build-up on my skin that I tend to get from other solid deodorants that I need to scrub away with exfoliating gloves, nor do I get any skin discoloration. Happy days! I really do feel deodorants made from majority natural ingredients are better for my skin and are less irritating in the long run.
Brand Response:
Thank you for the detailed and largely positive review of our Maca Root For Men Deodorant Stick, it is such a shame and concern to read of your husband’s reaction to the product.
This is most unusual feedback, we would like to reassure you that whilst we do not test on animals, our products are stringently tested to ensure quality and safety. We choose ingredients which have a long history of safe human use and our products undergo carefully controlled irritation and sensitisation tests. On the rare occasion, reactions occur even to those who have used a product successfully in the past.
Our experience has shown that in theory, every substance (or combination) may be a potential allergen to one person or another. However, we are so glad to hear that you find this product easy to use, that it doesn’t give you any build up or skin discolouration and that it doesn’t compete with your fragrances!
