8 timeless beauty tricks that never fail

We talk about beauty tricks A LOT on this site.
But if you’re one of those multi-tasking masters who is currently learning a different language and helping your kid with their maths homework, all while trying to become a knitting pro, you probably don’t have much more room in that mind of yours for a million beauty tips and tricks.
So we thought we’d simplify it down to eight. Eight tips that are completely timeless, because if there’s no room to remember anything else, you might as well remember the ones that will always be relevant as the trends come and go.
#1 Don’t over pluck your brows
Even if the super skinny brows from the 90s make a comeback, RESIST. Thin brows are incredibly ageing and you can’t get back what you’ve lost, but you can always style what you have.
#2 Use self tan to help you appear slimmer
We’ve all been there. The plan to eat healthy and exercise months before the big event went out the window as soon as somebody mentioned pizza. While it may not help you squeeze into a smaller size, fake tan will instantly make you look slimmer and healthier in a pinch of the time. Try using St Tropez Self Tan Express the next time you’re caught out. You can control how dark the tan is by adjusting the time you wait before showering (one hour will leave you with a lighter result and three with a deeper glow).
#3 Fake clean hair
While slicked-back hair may be a trend every now and then, greasy hair is not. Keep a dry shampoo (like TONI&GUY Hair Meet Wardrobe Dry Shampoo) in your desk drawer or handbag so you’re never caught out. Or if you’re desperate, baby powder is also a great grease absorber.
#4 Choose make-up with an SPF
We all know how important it is to wear sunscreen every day, so it would be silly not to take advantage of make-up products that offer sun protection. By using a BB cream or tinted moisturiser like ModelCo BB Plus Cream or SunSense Daily Face SPF 50+, you’re not only perfecting your complexion, but protecting it from the sun at the same time.
#5 Stick your nails on
They say that the only time a woman is helpless is when her nails are drying. And it’s completely true. You can’t so much open a door or go to the toilet without the fear of a smudge. So if you don’t have time to be helpless, or even paint them in the first place, stick-on nails are your saviours. They are so many styles and colours to choose from these days, there’ll be something to suit every trend. Try Elegant Touch French Press On for a classic French mani.
#6 Blot your lips
Whether the colour trend is bright pinks or pale blues, ensuring your lipstick stays put will remain timeless. Always apply the first coat, blot with a tissue and then apply the second coat to create resistance against colour fade.
Bonus: to keep it from creeping onto your teeth, put your index finger in your mouth and drag it out while pursing your lips. Any at-risk lipstick will be transferred on to your fingers instead of your teeth.
#7 Apply perfume to pulse points
It will make the fragrance last longer as the warmth from these points activates and intensifies the scent. These points include your wrists, neck, temples, below the earlobes and behind the knees. Choose only two points to spritz so you’re not overdoing it.
#8 Hide your roots
Visible roots can really ruin a good hair day. When you don’t have time for a quick dye job, parting your hair in a zig-zag can help to hide your roots while simultaneously adding extra volume.

I also am not into fake tanning. It seems like many people on BH love their fake tans.

Lol at #5. So true! I hate it when my nails are drying and I have a thousand things to do--I always end up smudging them =(
And when I was little, my parents always apply perfume to clothes. I only knew better once I got my own perfume, and read that to get it to last longer, it should be sprayed on pulse points and not rubbed on (I'm so guilty of this, as I used to spray it on my wrist, rub it with the other wrist, then apply to my neck).

If only I knew about the brows back in my teens! The 90's weren't very kind to me! I have learnt that less is more! Honestly I'd say my look hasn't changed much in the past 15 years. I think finding a classic style that doesn't date is key! Think Audrey Hepburn or even someone more current like Jen Aniston. She's still rocking the same hairstyle and it's still current and suits her! Try not to follow fads too much and find a look you like and be true to yourself!

Never never NEVER over-pluck the eyebrows! Oh if I learned anything from the 80's it's that eyebrows don't really grow back.

A zigzag part might be a good idea but the part will not stay zigzag for the day - not for me anyway - unless you kill it with hair spray and that look isn't too pretty either.
I may have a bad hair day but never because my hair isn't clean. I always make the effort to wash my hair before leaving the house for the day.
Don't like tanning either as I rather be pale than have an obvious fake streaky tan I feel uncomfortable with.
I wonder if some tips are produced merely to advertise a product! Come on BH be honest

I like the blotting my lips trick! I hate it when I apply lipsticks and the colour gets transferred into say my cups so easily then I'm left with bodgy looking lips
