Six reasons you need rose in your life

Fact: rose scents are normally associated with older people, seen as the perfect gift for mum and nana - you know, the ones who enjoy knitting, or bridge or lawn bowls.
While the above fact definitely rings true, anyone who steers clear of rose-scented or rose-infused products, really are the ones that are missing out.
Why? Because rose essential oil is jam-packed with loads of vitamins, minerals and antioxidants and is considered a powerful treatment for anxiety, insomnia – as well as being an aphrodisiac.
So before you dismiss rose essential oil for its erm… older following, ensure you definitely don’t need it (and it’s many, varied benefits) in your life…
NOTE: rose essential oil and rosehip oil are not the same thing. Rose essential oil is derived from rose blossoms, while rosehip oil is derived from the small fruits that sit behind the rose flower.
WHY ROSE IS GREAT FOR YOUR NOSE:
Rose essential oils are known to inspire emotional calm and stability. The aroma is powerful and comforting as well as balancing for your senses. In perfumes, rose oils add incredible richness, warmth and depth, which is why pureDKNY Rose Eau De Parfum is just what the doctor ordered. This soft, feminine scent is formulated in Turkey’s Isparta valley and follows a generations-old process of hand picking roses, bagging petals and gently rolling them through 26 stills to produce the essential oil that is later incorporated into the fragrance. This fresh scent is a far cry from the heavy, artificial rose scents granny used to wear – and for that reason alone, you’ll love it.
WHY ROSE IS GREAT FOR YOUR SKIN:
Rose essential oil is perfect to treat and soothe skin conditions such as psoriasis, eczema and atopic dermatitis due to its antiseptic and astringent properties. It’s for this reason that rose oil is also beneficial with the treatment of acneic skin and is a must-have for treating and soothing many skin conditions, thanks to its anti-inflammatory properties. We recommend The Body Shop Moroccan Rose Body Butter as it contains a blend of rose oil and Moroccan rose extract to ensure your skin stays soft and hydrated for up to 24 hours.
WHY ROSE IS GREAT FOR YOUR COMPLEXION:
Because rose essential oil can be applied diluted to your skin, it’s suitable for use on all skin types, including dry or inflamed skin. Rose oil is also incredibly hydrating and can assist in refining your skin tone, reducing redness, assisting with broken capillaries and fighting fine lines and wrinkles. Rose oil also contains high levels of vitamin C, which is known to help make your complexion seem brighter, as well as assist with skin tone discolouration. We recommend Aromatherapy Associates Triple Rose Renewing Moisturiser for its ability to lock in moisture and keep your complexion looking youthful and radiant while toning and protecting your skin, and Aum Ultra Hydrating Rose Facial Toner for its ability to balance skin pH and tone, refresh and revive your complexion.
WHY ROSE IS GREAT FOR YOUR MAKE-UP KIT:
Is there anything better than a sumptuous deep red/pink shade when your make-up look is in need of a pick-me-up? Rose shades are feminine and sexy without being too high impact, like some blood red lipsticks can be. For your lips, we love Revlon Colorburst Lipstick in Rose Nectar. We love these creamy lipsticks because they include innovative pigments that deliver high impact colour in one swipe. For your cheeks, rose shades definitely deliver in the dazzling stakes. Lancôme Blush Subtil Rose consists of shimmering pink hues that create a healthy glow for any skin tone.
WHY ROSE IS GREAT FOR YOUR HAIR:
The addition of rose oil into your hair care routine can see your hair follicles become soft and more hydrated and can also help to prevent dehydration. As rose oil contains anti-inflammatory properties, it can be beneficial in calming a number of scalp conditions during hair cleansing. We recommend Suigo Rose Energy Hair Treatment for its ability to instantly detangle and improve hair elasticity so it’s more resistant to breakage. The treatment is designed to improve weak and chemically damaged hair.
WHY ROSE IS GREAT FOR YOUR WELLBEING:
Even though it takes hundreds of buds to create just one drop of the stuff, rose oil is one of the most commonly used essential oils in the world. The aromatherapy properties possessed in rose oil work to relax and calm your mind, body and spirit. Better yet, rose essential oil has been known to help with the treatment of stress, anxiety and even mild depression.

It's funny as soon as I started reading this I could smell my grandmother , who always smells of roses. I love rose make up and lipstick but I'm not so sure if I am ready to embrace the rose scent. Not sure if my grandma who is in her 70's and me in my 20's should smell the same...

I'm surprised to read of people that don't like the scent of roses! Maybe they're reacting to products which have synthetic rose scents and not the true aromatherapy rose essential oil.

I adore roses and rosehip oils. I have hundreds of fragrant roses in my garden, botanical pictures of roses and rose patterned fabrics. I guess you could say I'm passionate about roses. I agree that not all roses fragrances have the same fragrance. I think that the tea rose fragrance is my favourite.
