Smells like spring: 10 floral fragrances you’ll love!

I know what you’re thinking, I really do. Florals in spring aren’t exactly innovative, but in such a blossom-heavy season, perfumers can’t resist those crisp citruses, blooming florals and musky hearts. And neither can we!

Those heavy winter fragrances won’t do when it’s all light and airy out, so get into the spirit of the season with scents like these…

Chanel Gardénia Les Exclusifs, RRP from $126

Part of a collection of 15 unisex fragrances exclusive to Chanel boutiques and David Jones stores, Gardénia is a sweet floral yet utterly delicious fragrance. The scent is a blend of fresh, sharp, green top notes, creamy white petals and sweet fruits, with a sensuous base of vanilla. It’s perfect for those sunny spring days, and the reason why I had such strong reservations about including it in this list – it’s just too good to share!

YSL Black Opium

Walking the line between Woodstock rock and feminine elegance, Black Opium combines the sweet elements of vanilla, jasmine, pear and orange blossom with deep, heady notes of coffee and patchouli. It’s like your favourite floral spritzer just took a shot of espresso.

Dolce & Gabbana, Dolce Floral Drops, RRP $87

This is a delicate and exquisitely soft scent of freshly picked white flowers. It opens with neroli and papaya flower before giving heart to white Amaryllis. Fresh, light and feminine – it’s the ideal scent to spritz on a spring morning.

Prada, Candy Florale EDP, RRP $81

When a perfume looks as pretty as this, what other choice do I have but to fawn over it?! That peony heart is just exploding with the sense of coquettish femininity, and each note is celebrated to its fullest. Inhale the blooms that intermingle with white musk and caramel – it smells good enough to eat.

Chloé Eau de Toilette, RRP $100 (available in October)

Like a second skin, this floral EDT plunges into an infusion of white roses, bergamot, magnolia and hint of lemon to reveal a softness, like the petals of a rose. Aside from the truly beautiful bottle it’s housed in, this scent feels like those first few days of spring when the sun begins to touch our skin and warm us from the inside out.

Kate Spade, Walk On Air, RRP $55

Sweet, tender layers of lily of the valley, magnolia and crinum lily feel like a breath of fresh air in spring. This floral is as soft as they come, and light enough to wear on the hottest of days. It’s an open invitation to seize the day, and envelop yourself in the promise of something wonderful.

Azzedine, Alaïa Paris Eau de Parfum, RRP $92

Azzedine once said, “to perfume oneself is like to refresh oneself”, which seems to be the very thought behind his first, very opulent fragrance. The surprising accords of pink pepper, freesia and peony, and musk offer an olfactory surprise that’s undoubtedly modern, fresh and mysterious.

Stella McCartney, Stella Eau de Toilette, RRP $68

Taking on the traditional rose bloom, this fragrance is inspired by the scent of a dewy rose captured in the morning sun, and mixes it with lush green notes like violet leaves and peony petals. The bright and bold composition is kept grounded with a subtle masculine ambergis base scent.

Jo Malone, Mimosa and Cardamom, RRP $125

A new bohemia awaits: this cologne is a mist of honeyed, golden mimosa which floats above the spiciness of freshly cut cardamom. Creamy tonka and smooth sandalwood are woven under powdery heliotrope and fresh Damask rose. It’s warm, ethereal and mesmerising.

Sonia Kashuk, White Etheriana, RRP $20

Smell a bouquet of fresh tulips, and then give this a whiff – you won’t be able to tell the difference. The sweet notes of provence mimosa, bamboo and violet combine with patchouli, tree moss, peach skin and musk to sensually round out the scent. It’s the kind of pure floral scent you can wear all spring, and then maybe all summer, too.

What’s your favourite perfume to wear in spring? Are you a floral, crispy greens or fruity fragrance lover?
