Basics to know

Okay, so I have to confess: up until recently, I was very, very confused by Reddit. It just seemed like this big, mysteryious site full of endless stuff. But I knew people lived for it, and that the beauty hacks were meant to be next-level, so I checked it out. And guys, (thankfully) it’s really not as hard to navigate as it looks.

Basically, Reddit is the self-proclaimed “front page of the internet” where people can comment on and discuss literally any topic at all. Subreddits are topics you can subscribe to that are like little communities. But if you don’t want to be actively involved within these subreddits, you can still stop by to read conversations, tips and hacks without having to sign up!

Hacks to try

The beauty hacks have to be the best thing about Reddit. We’ve trawled through threads and threads to find the ones we’re going to try. And we’re going to be trying all of these ASAP.

1. Car freshener hack

“Place a candle [in a glass jar] in an unused cup holder (or anywhere that it won’t fall over). The heat melts the candle just enough to release a pretty mild scent that will keep your interior smelling fresh without being overbearing.” – Reddit user churninbutter

2. Voluminous hair hack

“Hair: blow drying it upside down gives x2 more volume.” – Reddit user Redhaired103

3. Hair scrunchie hack

“Putting hair scrunchies on your wrists when washing your face to prevent elbow drippage.” – Reddit user NimetonTytto

4. Mascara hack

“I love to warm up my mascara in my bra! I always set it in there before I start doing my makeup and by the time I need it, it’s nice and easy to apply.” – Reddit user fullofwrackspurts

beautyheaven loves: Bobbi Brown Everything Mascara and COVERGIRL Plumpify Mascara.

5. Static hair hack

“Rub a dryer sheet through your hair to make is less staticy. I like to keep one in my purse during the winter so if I take off a sweater or hat I can fix my hair and not worry about bringing a product with me. Plus it makes your purse smell nice.” – Reddit user babewiththebiceps

6. Slurpee straw hack

“I use free slurpee straws from 711 to get the last bit of my foundation or moisturiser out. Can’t remember where I heard this tip from but it’s awesome. It has a scoop on one end that makes it perfect to scrape the bottom and side.” – Reddit user spooknat

7. Sweat marks hack

“Get the thin [panty liners] for ‘light flow.’ Place them sticky-side down inside your T-shirt, right where your pits would normally contact the shirt. Then layer on top of that. In summer you can wear unbuttoned light, short-sleeve button-downs over a light cotton tee and no one will be the wiser.” – Reddit user thatvoicewasreal
