We’re officially in the era of And Just Like That… (the latest instalment in the Sex and the City saga), and frankly, devastating plotlines aside (if you know, you know), we’re just happy to have the gang back.
Do you blame us? We’ve known and loved these characters (Carrie, Miranda, and Charlotte as well as their respective real-life counterparts, Sarah Jessica Parker, Cynthia Nixon and Kristin Davis) for a long time, and we’ve missed them dearly in the 11 (yep) years they’ve been offscreen.
It seems, though, that others may be letting judgment cloud their excitement, and we’re not here for it. As she’s just proven, neither is Sarah Jessica – in fact, in true icon status, she’s now hit back at the ageist commentary swirling around.
“There’s so much misogynist chatter in response to us that would never. Happen. About. A. Man.,” Parker told Vogue of the response to pictures released ahead of the show’s premiere. “‘Grey hair, grey hair, grey hair. Does she have grey hair?'”
“I’m sitting with [US TV host] Andy Cohen, and he has a full head of grey hair, and he’s exquisite. Why is it okay for him? I don’t know what to tell you people!”
She went on to bring up another excellent point: as women, we’re damned if we do (try to age gracefully, that is) and damned if we don’t.
For example, some social media commenters were quick to call out Kristin for colouring her hair and perhaps opting for some tweakments (the latter of which she’s never spoken openly about, so people, please stop assuming), while simultaneously slamming Sarah Jessica and Cynthia for the fact that they may not have done so. Which yes, you guessed it, apparently leaves no option that flies in the court of public opinion.
“It almost feels as if people don’t want us to be perfectly okay with where we are, as if they almost enjoy us being pained by who we are today, whether we choose to age naturally and not look perfect, or whether you do something if that makes you feel better,” Sarah Jessica explained.
Kristin (our beloved Charlotte) agreed wholeheartedly in a later chat with London’s Sunday Times: “Everyone wants to comment, pro or nay or whatever, on our hair and our faces and our this and our that,” she said, noting that the “level of intensity of it was a shock.”
“I feel angry and I don’t want to feel angry all the time, so I don’t look at it. I just know it’s there.”
Sarah Jessica went on to pose a poignant question: “I know what I look like. I have no choice. What am I going to do about it? Stop aging? Disappear?”
We sure don’t want her to do either – we’re thrilled that she’s back on our TVs as Carrie Bradshaw once again, and we’ll gladly take her (and the whole gorgeous gang, for that matter) however they feel most comfortable.
Because they all look damn incredible however you slice it, and just like that (pardon the pun), we think the matter is settled…

Loved the show. There is no Sex in the city though without Samantha. Therefore, not very excited.
My daughters loved this show, I watched it a couple of times, but found something that I liked better.
Samantha was my favourite, too. I saw actress Kim Cattrall on an episode of Who Do You Think You Are?, tracing her genealogy. I had no idea she was British!
What happened to Sam?
Kim Catrall didn’t want to do any more. There are rumours of animosity between Kim Catrall & SJP.

I think Sex and The City came out around 1999 and people forget this, especially when they haven’t seen the actors on the screen for quite a few years. Of course they are going to look older, they were in their 30’s when the show started and time stands still for no one. I think they all look great and no matter what they do or don’t do with their looks they will be criticised by someone.
Yay! When I watch these women I find time goes so fast! So enjoyable.

I have mixed feelings but I have enjoyed the show in the past, though not so much the movies. I don’t think it will be as good w/o Samantha.
Some people really do need to get over Women and Ageing there is nothing wrong with Grey Hair like Sarah Jessica Parker said age gracefully nothing is wrong with that.

I won’t be watching, but I don’t see anything wrong with ANY of them – they all look fantastic! Do people REALLY expect these actors to have just been frozen in time & not age any further? Jeeeez, get a grip.

This was my fav show back in the day. It’s great that it continues and the story moves with their ages & their looks move with the story. What do people expect people will look like 20 years on.

I’m looking forward to it as the 3 ladies are now all married so it won’t be all the hopping in and out of bed with every Tom, Dick and Harry! It does make me wonder how they will fill up the episodes though.

I don’t care for the show and I won’t be watching this instalment but I didn’t think about the grey hair until it was mentioned in the article. I don’t mind if someone has greys showing, it is a fact of life and I am sure that I will probably has days like that too in the future.
I think they all look fabulous. It’s not a favorite show, but I do think it sometimes had incisive things to say.
