Nostalgic celebrity scents we’re still obsessed with from the 00s

It’s no secret that the 00s were epic. After all, it was the era of The O.C., Juicy Couture tracksuits and the Jonas Brothers’ original run – pretty hard to beat. And while our jeans were worn low, our scent standards were high – in fact, if a fragrance wasn’t fronted by our fave Hollywood face, we wouldn’t have even deemed it ‘fetch’ enough for Gretchen Wieners. And so, celebrity fragrances reigned supreme; the sweeter the scent and bolder the bottle the better. But we see no reason why they should stay trapped in the 00s (Gilmore Girls got a 2016 reunion after all). So before they become a distant memory, we’ve rounded up the most epic celeb scents of the noughties, from J-Lo and Xtina to Britney and Hilary (now this is what dreams are made of). Cue nostalgia.

Sarah Jessica Parker

Sarah Jessica Parker NYC EDP ($29.99, chemistwarehouse.com.au)
Released: 2009

Calling all Carries; this scent is Bradshaw in a bottle. With a fruity-floral mix of strawberry, mimosa and gardenia (and a touch of rum as an ode to Mr. Big), SJP describes it as a ‘party in a perfume’ inspired by her iconic alter ego’s love for fashion and her city. It’ll make you want to strap on a pair of Manolo’s, dig out your nameplate necklace and binge-watch the entire SATC series immediately.

Hilary Duff

Hilary Duff With Love ($32.14, galaxyperfume.com.au)
Released: 2006

Hilary’s spicy scent served as her switch from teen queen to grown woman (and from blonde to brunette), accompanied by a saucy single release of the same name. In a bid to leave lovable Lizzie McGuire behind, she opted for a sensual, sultry and succulent blend of mangosteen blossom, amber and musk, hinting to fans that it represented her more grownup style and personality (she was nineteen, but in child star years that’s very mature).

Usher

Usher She for Women ($44.95, feelingsexy.com.au)
Released: 2007

Allow us to take you back to a time when Usher’s ‘Yeah!’ was blasting on dance floors worldwide, and every person on said d-floor was probably doused in this frangipani and apricot delight. Billed by the man himself as an eau built to represent the strength and sexiness of a woman, it’s a scent all about enhancing your sensuality and self-confidence. Usher, we approve this message.

Christina Aguilera

Christina Aguilera EDP Spray ($44, chemistwarehouse.com.au)
Released: 2007

No points for name originality on this one (it’s literally called Christina Aguilera), but full marks for scent composition – it smells downright delicious. Released the same year as her hit ‘Candyman’ Xtina took the sugar coated theme literally in the scent realm, blending together a pineapple, musk and vanilla scent that smells sweet enough to eat.

Jennifer Lopez

Jennifer Lopez Live Luxe EDP Spray
Released: 2006

We have a feeling our version of ‘living luxe’ may differ a little to J-Lo’s – hers involves sunning on a yacht in St. Tropez and ours means springing for avocado at lunch (guac always costs extra); but we’ll take any glimpse into Jen’s life we can get, and this pear and melon mix is a hell of a way to do it. The fact that peach is also a central note seems fitting for J-Lo – picture the emoji and you’ll understand why.

Britney Spears

Britney Spears Fantasy EDP ($29.99, chemistwarehouse.com.au)
Released: 2005

While the fantasy of anyone wearing it was to be Britney Spears, Brit’s own fantasy was evidently more of a white chocolate/vanilla cupcake situation (fair). A girly gourmand drop housed in a love-potion style bottle adorned with Swarovski crystals (pretty boujee when you’re age 12), Brit’s second scent release remains as much of a classic as ‘Oops I Did It Again’.

David Beckham

David Beckham Signature For Him
Released: 2008

In 2008, British-born Becks was signed to soccer club LA Galaxy, and his proximity to the Californian coastline is certainly well represented within this cologne, with notes of sea water, watermelon and lantana (a unique verbena family floral native to the U.S.) taking centre stage. It also launched alongside a female-focused counterpart, so pick that up too if you’re keen on owning the full Posh and Becks set.
