The baby app that tells you what your name would be if you were born today
Have you ever wondered what you’d be called if you were born today? Or in the 1890s, 1930s or 2000s?
Chances are you’d be given a very different name to the one you have.
And now you can find out just what that would be, with the help of time.com’s fun new tool. It guesses what you’d be called today if you had a name with the same popularity as the day you were born.
All you have to do is type in your name, year of birth and gender and hey presto – the gizmo reveals your ‘Today Name’.
So, let’s say you were born in 1977 and were named Sarah – that year’s eleventh most popular girl’s name. Your ‘Today Name’ would be Harper – the eleventh most popular name of 2014. Make sense?
Of course, I couldn’t resist giving the gizmo a go. My parents gifted me the name Bethany in 1990 – which makes my ‘Today Name’ Hazel. Interesting.
If you have some extra time on your hands (or are partial to procrastinating), you can also go back in time to find your ‘1970s name’ or ‘1950s name’ – all the way back to the 1890s. Cool, huh?
The only problem is, the results are based on the US’ Social Security Administration’s baby name data – which means it may not be entirely accurate for those Aussie-born ladies.
Thankfully, bh recently revealed Australia’s top baby names, so you can still suss out what’s #trending Down Under.
It’s also worth noting that parents choose names based on a lot of factors other than popularity… but we can’t deny the tool is fun to play around with!
