Kate Middleton is pregnant!
Well, in case you haven’t heard what’s probably the biggest news of this year, Kate Middleton, or more formally the Duchess of Cambridge, is pregnant!
Reportedly less than 12 weeks along and due in the UK spring, the Duke and Duchess made the announcement after Kate was taken to the King Edward VII hospital in London suffering from acute morning sickness.
The Duchess is expected to stay in hospital for a few days, and while we’re certain she’s receiving the best medical care in the world, we couldn’t help but put in our two cents of some things the soon-to-be-mum (and all you soon-to-be-mums) could find quite handy to know during her pregnancy:
Whether you lead a busy life or not, fatigue is incredibly common during pregnancy, especially during the first and third trimesters. So instead of pushing through it, take the time to rest and sleep so that you and your body are at their best to help that little human inside of you grow.
Put only the best into your body
A healthy, balanced diet is of the utmost importance when you’re pregnant, because whatever you’re putting into your body is affecting your growing baby. Make sure your diet includes a balance of lean meats, fruits, vegetables, wholegrains, and dairy. It’s best for you to consult your doctor about the best foods to eat (and which ones to avoid, like raw fish or creamy cheeses such as brie).
It’s also a good idea to look into taking vitamins to supplement (not substitute) your diet to ensure your body (and baby) are getting all the nutrients they need. Ask your doctor about vitamins such as vitamin C, iron, and folate.
Oh, and don’t forget about keeping hydrated! Your blood volume increases during pregnancy so it’s important to drink enough water each day to prevent dehydration and constipation.
While you need to make sure you’re getting enough rest during your pregnancy, it’s just as important to exercise regularly. Not only will it help prevent excess weight gain, but moderate exercise (don’t go overboard!) can help reduce pregnancy-related problems like back pain, swelling and constipation, and can help improve sleep, increase energy and lessen your recovery time after labour. Exercises like walking, swimming, yoga, and Pilates are all low-impact and great ways to keep moving during pregnancy.
