How to enjoy party season while pregnant
One of the positive things about being pregnant is that you’ve got a pretty good excuse not to attend every social event you’re invited to. That is unless you’re pregnant during party season. Yep, unfortunately the pregnancy excuse can be hard to pull off when you’re contending with Christmas parties, New Year celebrations, summer weddings and BBQs. The time of year you normally look forward to can be a bit harder without your usual bubbly and Camembert in hand, and even more so if you’re not ready to tell people you’re ‘expecting’ yet. So to help you survive the party season, here’s a few tips and tricks to make attending events easier.
TOP TIP #1 Prepare your own platter
If you have the opportunity to bring something to the party, prepare a big platter of food that is safe for you to eat. That way you can station yourself near it, making it easier (and less suss) to refuse the cheese platter that’s making the rounds. If BYO isn’t an option, store some nuts in your handbag so you have something to keep your energy levels up.
TOP TIP #2 Make the most of mocktails
It can be easy to feel left out when everyone is toasting and sipping on champagne, but being pregnant gives you a great opportunity to try out the mocktail menu. If you’re not ready to tell people you’re pregnant yet they’re also a great way to disguise the fact that you’re not drinking.
TOP TIP #3 Find the coolest spot in the room
The last thing you want to happen at a party is to become overheated. Try to find the coolest spot in the room, either under the air conditioning or near a fan. Pay attention to your body and if you begin to feel faint, find a seat and try to cool down with a cold glass of water.
TOP TIP #4 Floral maxis and flats
If the event you’re attending will require you to be standing for a fair amount of time, make sure you dress comfortably. Maxi dresses are perfect for the hot weather, and the right cut can be flattering to your expanding stomach. Flat and comfy shoes are also a must.
TOP TIP #5 Rest
Your energy levels just aren’t the same when you’re pregnant so if you’re heading to an evening event, make sure to have plenty of sleep the night before. If you’re not working, try squeezing in a catnap in the afternoon so that you won’t want to be heading home after an hour.
