Quick & easy tips to help mums stay young

Whether you’ve had one, two or ten kids, there’s no denying that they can make you feel old. Especially when they begin attending school, or worse, when they start to drive. It can be easy to get caught up in the role of motherhood and putting your kids first, but sometimes this can lead to unnecessary stress and premature ageing. So to make sure all you mums out there are keeping your sanity, here’s a few tips to keep you feeling and looking as young as you are.
HOW TO STAY YOUNG TIP #1– DON’T give into the greys
The urge to skip your monthly salon visit can become greater when you’re busy running around after your kids, but do try your hardest to keep it scheduled in. Even if grey hairs aren’t so much of a concern yet, the hour or two that you’ll have to yourself will be more than worth it. If salon trips aren’t in your budget, invite one of your girlfriends around for some drinks and a hair dying session. You can swap and dye each other’s hair using an at-home kit like Schwarzkopf Colour Mask.
HOW TO STAY YOUNG TIP #2 – DO play with your kids
Instead of sending your kids outside to play so that you can stay in and mop the floors, go and play with them. Being playful and acting young can dramatically reduce stress levels and improve your ability to solve problems. Dr. Adam Fraser, evian Live Young expert and leading human performance researcher says, “Play is defined as anything we do for the sake of it. It’s about enjoying the pleasure of doing the task without focusing so much on the outcome. Playing is not only critical for the development of the brain but also its health, as play stimulates our pre frontal cortex, the part of the brain that controls executive function.”
HOW TO STAY YOUNG TIP #3 – DON’T be a slave to the kitchen
We all want to eat healthy and make sure our kids are getting the right nutrients, but that doesn’t mean you should be slaving away in the kitchen every single night, stressing over trips to the supermarket and recipes. Sometimes frozen vegies and a barbeque chook from the shops just has to cut it.
HOW TO STAY YOUNG TIP #4 – DO find a good babysitter
While staying in to watch Finding Nemo and going to bed at nine may be your idea of a perfect Saturday night, it’s important to still be social every now and then. Having a trustworthy babysitter on call for date nights with the hubby or drinks with the girls, will mean that you can go out, have fun and feel young again without worrying (too much) about the kids.
HOW TO STAY YOUNG TIP #5 – DON’T forget about your own hobbies
Whether you like to read, paint, bake, make scrapbooks or play piano, make sure you still make time for the things you love. Set aside a time each week where you can indulge in your favourite hobby. Or if it’s an activity that you can teach your kids or share with them, try doing them together.

Great advice. I'm struggling to cram in as much me-time as I can when my baby is napping - like typing this response with one hand whilst rocking him to sleep in the other!

Doing fun activities that I really love personally e.g. bushwalks, beachwalks, beach swims, visiting country towns etc and doing these things with my children keep me young I think because when I see them enjoying the activity too it inspires me all over again!

My kids are grown up now. I think that it's important to take time out for yourself. I used to leave the kids with grandma for the day and go into the city to just wander and try out all the perfumes and make up etc. I would enjoy doing this once a month, and the kids and grandma would have a lovely day together too.
