Celebrities get real about breastfeeding

Breastfeeding can be a vastly different experience for everyone so we love when mums get real about what it’s really like. Whether it’s posting a breastfeeding image (a ‘brelfie’) or telling stories about chapped nipples and mastitis, we think it’s important to be shared.

And some celebrities like to keep it as real as the rest of us. From Chrissy Teigen’s many breastfeeding comments on social media to Carrie Bickmore expressing at the TV WEEK Logies – they’ve been there and have felt your (literal) pain. Here are our favourite celebrity breastfeeding stories…

Chrissy Teigen

When it comes to celebrities keeping it real, Chrissy always takes the cake. So Chrissy Teigen breastfeeding? You bet she’s spoken out (and made us LOL) about it.  After giving birth to her daughter Luna, Chrissy told Entertainment Tonight that the breastfeeding schedule took her by surprise. “The feeding schedule surprised me a lot. If you kind of do the math, you’re kind of breastfeeding for 10 hours a day total,” she said. “It’s very loving and sweet, but it’s not easy. They just use you for your milk and you just feel like you are just a cow all day. It’s hard to work your entire day around getting her the nourishment she needs because they are just little animals.”

Since giving birth to her second child, a son named Miles, Chrissy has brought the reality back to breastfeeding once again. She shared video earlier this year of her trying to scoop spilled breast milk back up with a turkey baster and syringe. “I am so jealous of people with plentiful boobies,” she posted alongside it. But that’s not all! Chrissy also posted about prominent blue veins on her chest, asking fans, “Please look at my veins going to my milky boobs. What is this?” on her Instagram story. She’s also posted this cute AF pic of her breastfeeding Miles and Luna’s doll. “Luna making me feed her babydoll so I guess I have twins now,” she captioned.

What did we ever do to deserve Chrissy Teigen?!

Carrie Bickmore

“I was at the Logies when I had Evie, and that was about six weeks after I had her, and I remember this moment when I was in the toilet with my top down expressing into the toilet because my boobs were getting so big they were coming out of my top,” Carrie said on The Project.”I remember thinking, ‘This mum-life, work life thing’s not working quite the way I planned right at this moment!'”

Kelly Rowland

“All that gnawing at your nipples will take its toll! In those early days, I was fascinated (my polite way of saying ‘horrified’) by the transformation of the boobs,” ” Kelly wrote in her parenting guide Whoa, Baby!. “My nipples were HUGE — we are talking the size of Frisbees — and sometimes I could see these veins bulging out while I was nursing,” she shared. “My boobs themselves were so long and stretchy that I sometimes felt like I could’ve swung them over my shoulders.”
