Top tips to get the most out of your baby's bath

After many, many years of practice, you’ve got the whole washing yourself every day thing down pat (well, one would hope). Kudos to you. You smell great.
But as a new mum, bathing your baby may not seem as clear-cut. Their little body is so tiny and delicate, and there are areas you may have never even thought needed attention (like in the folds of their chubby baby skin). So rather than let you play a not-so-fun game of trial and error, we asked Jo Bridgman, a midwife who works with the Johnson’s baby professional team, to share some baby bathtime tips.
TOP TIPS FOR BABY BATHTIME
1. Water alone isn’t always enough to remove all impurities from your baby’s bottom. Use products that are specially formulated for babies and will cleanse while caring for your baby’s delicate skin barrier.
2. Choose a bath product that is soap free and therefore won’t dry out your baby’s skin. Jo’s product choice: Johnson’s baby Top-to-Toe.
3. Keeping your baby's skin hydrated and moisturised is one of the most important things you can do to help maintain and protect your baby's delicate skin barrier. Choose a moisturising lotion that has been specially formulated to care for and nourish your baby's skin. Jo’s product choice: Johnson’s Baby Lotion.
4. Cherish bath time! While a bath will help cleanse away impurities that can lead to skin irritations, it’s also a wonderful time to bond with your baby and helps your bub relax before bedtime - so enjoy it!

Memories, my youngest "baby" is now 18, so it's been a while! I used to love bathtime, it was a chance to relax & enjoy special time with bub. I had a bub with bad ezcema, aqueous cream was a wonderful natural product that helped eliminate the issue

I always followed bathtime with a relaxing message with baby lotion to moisturise and relax my daughter. I always used Johnson's products for my daughter. They are of high quality and they smell divine. I don't think I could name just one thing I learned from becoming a mother. There seemed to be so many things to learn everyday. Even after almost 17 years I'm still learning...only now it's much more difficult than when she was a baby. :)

Keep an eye on them at all times especially if they're wriggles.

I find J&J's products dry out my skin and irritate my eczema so I refuse to use them on my baby's delicate skin. I prefer more natural products like Gaia, Burt's Bees or Sukin.

I didn't use anything in the bath except oats in a stocking until my little one was over 3 months, I just didn't want to irritate her delicate skin. I put about half a cup of rolled oats into an old stocking and tied it up, then swivelled it around in the water to make an oat milk bath. Her skin was so lovely and soft, I just wanted to touch it all day!

Great tips. I use johnsons products each day on my toddlers and used them all the time when they were babies and I've always been satisfied.

having a bath is very tiring for new bubs, so use this to your advantage, bub will give you a good few hours of sleep after a relaxing warm bath... and i always tried not to bathe them for too long (even though they loved it) otherwise id have an exhausted, hungry baby crying while i was trying to get him dressed...also start training bub to let you put water over his face, i used to say 1,2,3 water, they pour water over his head.... they get a shock at first but quickly learn to hold their breath, makes bath time much easier, and alot less tears in the long run:) and i love the johnsons baby bath with shea.... mmm i keep one in the shower for myself

I found that no matter what kind of products I used, bath time just gave my daughter energy, so we switched and bathed her during the day (mornings when it was possible). She still loves the Johnson & Johnson products, especially anything that makes bubbles so highly recommend them... the night time formulae may even work for other babies!

I'm not a fan of johnsons and johnsons products, prefer natural products, baby's don't need all the nasties.

My only tip would be to use a natural/organic wash with no fragrance because babies skin is so soft and fragile.
