Spring fling

Spring fling

Hello from my wardrobe. I’m not exactly perched inside, but I am so excited at the arrival of spring and prospect of shopping, I may as well be. I’ve been weeding out the black dresses, tops and skirts that have been the backbone of my winter look to make way for floral teadresses and sheer silk blouses in the softest neutrals.

Naturally the same seasonal switch also applies to my make-up. I’ve previously confessed to being rather classic (that’s code for ever so slightly boring) when it comes to the colours that make it on to my eyes and lips. Black, charcoal, chocolate, gold and bronze are my eye staples while lips remain close to nude.

But right now, I’m rather taken with Max Factor Earth Spirits Eye Shadow in Ultra Aqua 131. It’s not out until next month but I’m already practising lining my upper lashes with this wonderful wash of sea-foam. Along with bronzy cheekbones, heavy black lashes and nothing more than a little clear gloss (ok, so some things never change), this brilliant bolt of greeny-blue looks daytime fresh. Not at all disco.

That’s not all I’m falling for. My nails are going through a metamorphosis right now from miscellaneous dark hues – nearly black purples and grapes – to killer corals and yellow-toned reds. And true orange. Speaking of orange, I’ve always been a fan of this citrus stalwart on pale skins. Yes, it’s an obvious choice for nails or lips if you’re sporting a just-back-from-Bali glow, but it’s most striking on porcelain complexions.

My dear colleague Sarah does this look particularly well. With her dark eyes and fair skin, a slick of MAC Lipstick in Morange is all it takes to make her features pop. So whether it’s a flash of aqua around the eyes, a bold flare-up on nails or luscious lips in something shocking, join us in shifting up gear with colour this spring.

Your wardrobe will thank you, trust me.

What spring colours are you lusting after?
